Nice to see you again chapter one; Danny;
“Danny, you have to go move with you Uncle…back to Laurel” I still hear my mothers words the day she told me. and now I’m back in the town I grew up in, the town I was raised in, the town my parents split up in, the town my father died in, and the town I’m going back to 10 years later. I left when I was 6 and now I’m 16. I left when my parents got divorced, and stopped visiting when my dad had to go to war. He didn’t die in the war though, he fell into depression when he came home and drank himself to the never waking sleep. I’m going to live with my uncle. My dad’s brother. Apparently my mother thinks I forgot where I came from and is making me move back. Do I want to? No I don’t. But I want to make my mom happy. Plus maybe it won’t be that bad.
“Welcome to Baltimore Washing airport, we are in Baltimore right now, and it is approximately 3:10 pm and is nice and sunny for you. Hope you had a great flight from Ft Lauderdale to Baltimore. Please fly with us again” the flight attendant said. I sighed to myself. Got up from my seat and got my skateboard from the top.
“hey boy” my uncle said when he saw me.
“Hey Uncle Frank” I said.
“Look I am really happy to see you again; I think it’ll be good for you to be around your other family again. And don’t worry I won’t be real strict on you. Just a few rules. Curfew is 10 on weeknights and on Friday and Saturday if your not home before 3 then make sure I don’t hear you, Sunday is counted as a weeknight by the way. Grades go down then I will get strict. Don’t ruin the house, and don’t be brought home by the cops. Also don’t forget it’s a small town and everyone knows you” he said.
“Got it” I replied.
“Look I know you don’t want to be here. But I know your dad would want you to always remember this town” he said. We got in the car and drove the 30 minute drive to good ole laurel. We passed the sign.
“Nothing much change…just the kids you used to play in the dirt with” he laughed. I smiled for his amusement.
We passed by the high school.
“You start there tomorrow.” he read my mind.
“Oh cool” I said.
The rest of the ride was silent. We got to his house. It still looked the same when I would come over when I was little.
“Your room is the old office; I set it up with just the basics. You can decorate however you want.” He said. I walked up the stairs.
“Yup, there’s a bed, desk, TV…” it got kind of awkward.
“Ok then I’ll let you settle in” he said and left the room. I sat on the bed.
“Oh this is going to be a long two years till I graduate” I said to the ceiling.
