"I wish I could be a princess. I wish I was Cinderella!" Alyssa declared, leaping off the bed and whirling and twirling with an invisible prince. Lauren watched her sister with contempt. 2
"I don't. I want to be Snow White. I want to have black hair, and pale skin, and rosy cheeks..." Lauren sighed, gazing sadly into a mirror and twisting her blonde hair around her finger. 3
"I wish I was a princess." Both girls said at the same time. Suddenly, a loud pop echoed through the room. Alyssa and Lauren whirled around to the center of the room to see Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, and Sleeping Beauty. The two girls gasped, hands flying to their mouths. Then they ran to the princesses, their idols, exclaiming loudly over their lovely hair and gowns. 4
"Stop it, Stop it!" Commanded Rapunzel, shooing them away and straightening her tiara. "We aren't here for you to admire. We're here to correct your vision of being a princess." 5
"What do you mean?" Lauren asked, confused. 6
"Being a princess is terrible." Cinderella exclaimed. "I had a miserable life. My mom died, then my dad remarried to this abusive
, who happened to have to daughters who were as stuck up and abusive as their mother! Then to top it all off, my dad died!" 7"You think your life was bad?" Snow White demanded "Mine was ten times as worse as yours! I had a mother who was jealous of her daughter, not because I could do something better than her, but because I was prettier than her! And she was crazy! She talked to mirrors! Then she tried to kill me. I ended up being raised in a forest with seven tiny dwarf men with split personalities and who seemed to think life was a musical! That is bad!"8
Rapunzel snorted. 9
"No one's life could be worse than mine. First I get named after a freaking herb. Not even a flower, an herb. Then I get stolen by a witch and locked in a tower. A tower. I get claustrophobic! And bored! Not to mention having my hair yanked out when an obese witch climbs up it every day. No wonder I fell for the first prince that came around!"10
Alyssa and Lauren glanced at each other, thinking maybe they were dreaming, or maybe their idols had gone a bit loopy from all the elegance in their lives. Either way, they weren't sure they wanted to be a princess anymore. Especially when all the princesses started slapping each other and arguing over whose life was worse. 11
"Glass slippers give me blisters!" 12
"I slept for a hundred years! Serious bags!" 13
Alyssa and Lauren stared, wide eyed, at the princesses. Suddenly, they couldn't take it anymore. 14
"We don't want to be a princess anymore!"15
The princesses disappeared. Everything was fine. Alyssa and Lauren turned off Cinderella very quickly. 16
The next day, they were in their parent's bedroom. On the screen, Maximum Ride and the Flock were flying. 17
"I wish I could be an avian-human..." Lauren sighed.18
A loud pop echoed through the room.
