Synen's Legend-Ch.03

Chapter 31

Michael gasped as Grace’s lips began to move, and he leant back, scrambling away. Grace’s body began to glow, a faint silvery mist, surrounding her. A woman appeared beside her, she was young, mid-twenties, with waist-length, pale hair. She was wearing a long, silver robe, which dragged on the floor behind her. The woman crouched down beside Grace who was mumbling inaudibly. The woman smiled slightly and kissed Grace’s forehead, before whispering a long string of words. Michael couldn’t understand the language she was speaking but he guessed it was magic, a charm, maybe. 2

Michael looked around, there was nothing but empty whiteness, all around him! He then watched Grace open her blue eyes, disbelievingly. Grace sat up and stared at the woman, looking scared, and she said, panicking,
“Who are you?!” Grace noticed Michael sitting a little way away looking absolutely terrified and she crawled towards him, her hands shaking. The woman straightened up and watched the small girl make her way to the boy. And, for the first time, she spoke,
“Hello, Grace, Michael.” her voice was smooth and musical; soothing, “I am Artemis. One of the two of your god-parents.” Michael and Grace stared at her,
“What?” Michael asked starting to get a bit annoyed. Artemis smiled calmly,
“You must have worked it out by now. You two are the chosen ones.” Michael and Grace’s brains recalled the legend of the two chosen ones and they yelped in surprise,
“No way.” Grace exclaimed. Michael’s mouth just hung open; speechless. Artemis smiled again,
“Yes. You two are meant to be. I am goddess of the moon and Apollo is the god of the sun.”
“We are your god-parents, quite literally.” A man with flaming red hair and bright, chocolate brown eyes stood beside Artemis, “I am sorry, this is a lot to take in all at one time. But you have to believe us, if you do not, Synen will be no more!” Grace and Michael stared at the two gods standing in front of them and then at eachother. And Michael said,
“I-I do believe you. I don’t know why, but I do!” Grace nodded,
“Yeh. It’s weird.” Artemis and Apollo sighed with relief but then their expressions turned serious again and Apollo said apologetically,
“We are happy that you believe us, but you won’t want to do what we need you to do. We need you to leave your families, your life, your school, we need you to disappear completely.” Grace and Michael’s eyes widened and they thought about their families. Grace thought of her mum and dad with their alcohol problems. Michael thought about his old granddad in the care home up the way from his flat, where he lived with his older sister, Cari, with her late-night parties and clubbing. They stared at eachother and said quietly and in unison,
“Okay.” and then Grace said,
“I am only going if Cinders and Ray come too.” Artemis and Apollo stared at them,
“Do you not want to think about it a bit more? This is a massive decision!” Grace and Michael shook their heads,
“No. But we want Cinders and Ray to come.” Michael replied firmly. Apollo and Artemis sighed and snapped their fingers. 3

The two familiars, both drenched in Cinder’s blood, appeared in front of Michael and Grace. The Sorans hugged their familiars and told them the whole story, still not quite believing it themselves! Apollo then announced,
“We are to go now.” Grace, Cinders, Michael and Ray looked confused,
“Where?” Grace asked. Apollo and Artemis walked over to them. Artemis put her arms around Michael and Grace and Apollo put his arms around Ray and Cinders. In a flash, they disappeared.4

Good, well done. One question: why wouldn't the familiars come with them? Plus, I thought this world wasn't modern, but that might just be me being mistaken I like the names of the gods too.
