Jade: Yeah. Y?2

Me: I’m coming 2 ur room. I’m not really sleepy3

Jade: K’s I’m bored 2 lol4

Me: K. I’ll b there in 2 minutes5

I closed my phone and made my way towards her room. I knocked on the door. She opened it and smiled. “Hey.” She said. “Hi.” I replied going in and sitting on her bed. “Tomorrow we’re going shopping. You need a new dress for the party because it’s the day after tomorrow.” “A dress?” “Yes a dress. I’m going to pick it out to. Don’t worry you won’t look peppy.” She said. I laughed. “Peppy was the last thing on my mine.” I said. She grinned. 6

“I’ve been meaning to ask you are you and Adam going out?” She blushed. “I knew it. You guys make a cute couple.” I said. She smiled. “Emma do you like dating my half brother?” She asked. “He’s ok. Not really the type of guy I would date, but eh who cares?” I shrugged. “Don’t date him Emma please. I’ve heard things about Zack. I don’t want him to hurt you.” She looked at me. “I think I could handle if someone hurts me.” I said. “You can physically, but can you emotionally.”7

I thought about it. I was ok with the whole someone trying to hurt me thing, but I can’t handle if they hurt me emotionally. My last boyfriend did that to me and it hurt. I haven’t dated anyone after that and it was three years ago. “I guess I can’t.” I shrugged. She looked at me. “You can date him if you want, but please don’t get hurt.” She said. I smiled. “I won’t.” I said. I looked around. “I’m sleeping in your room tonight. Can I borrow some clothes?”8

She smiled and went into her closet and tossed me some clothes. I went into her bathroom and changed clothes. I came back and jumped on her couch. “I got the couch.” I said, smiled. She laughed. “Be my guess.” She said. I put my head on the pillow and closed my eyes. “Night.” I said and went to sleep. A few hours later someone started knocking on the door. “Emma. Get it.” Jade groaned. I looked at the clock. 6 in the morning. Who the hell knocks on a door at six in the morning?! I got up and scratched my head. Then yawned and made my way to the door.9

I opened it to find Justin standing there looking at me. “Of course. Only you wake someone up at six in the morning.” I said. He chuckled. “Well can I help you with something?” He looked at me. “I came to talk to Jade about something, but I guess she’s asleep.” He said. “OK. Anything else before I got back to dreamland?” I asked. “Yeah. Um you wanna go get some food or something?” He asked. I blinked. “At six in the morning?” “Yeah.” I thought about it. “Sure. Why not.” He smiled.10

I walked out. “Your going like that?” He raised an eyebrow. I looked down at myself. I had a tank top on and shorts. “Is it ok if I do?” I asked. He blinked and laughed. “Since when does the rebel ask the delinquent?” He asked. I smiled. I ran to my room and picked out new clothes. Then I went to the bathroom and took a shower. The I ran back to him. “Does the delinquent approve of this?” I said. He looked at me. “Yep.” I grinned and we walked outside to his car.11

The first thing I did was put in one of his Mayday Parade Cds. He looked at me. “You like Mayday Parade?” He asked. “Who doesn’t? Their on my shirt.” I said, pointing to my shirt. He smiled. We drove to the Dunkin Doughnuts. Yes Dunkin Doughnuts. “I want a bagel and hot chocolate. Oh and some muffins.” I sat down. “Ok.” He said and went over to the counter. I sat down and started drumming my fingers on the table. 12

He came back a few minutes later. “Here you go.” He said, placing them in front of me. I took a bite of my muffin. “So why are you being so nice?” I asked. “What I can’t be nice?” “No. You can’t. It’s not really in your nature.” “It could be in my nature.” “Mhmm.” I said, taking a sip of my hot chocolate. He looked at me and laughed. “What?” “You have whipped cream on your nose.” He said. “I do?” He nodded. I frowned then punched him. “It’s not funny.” He put his arms on the table and leaned forward. “On the contrary it is funny. Very funny.” 13

I leaned closer to him. “How funny?” I asked. He smiled. I just kept leaning into him. Our faces were only inches apart when I realized what I was doing. I pulled back. “Um I’m going to get some more whipped cream.” I said, getting up and walking over to the counter. “How may I help you?” The counter person said. I looked p at him and instantly recognized his face. “Cesar!” I screamed going on the counter and jumping on him. “Emma?” He said. I got up and helped him. “Yep the one and only Emma.” He smiled.14

“I didn’t know you worked here.” “Yep. People who don’t go to school and live on their own have to get something called a job.” He said. I laughed. “I know that dummy. Oh so you work here do I get a discount?” He grinned. “Maybe, maybe not. It depends on how I feel. Hey don’t you have school today? It’s like seven thirty.” He asked. “Yep. I do, but Justin wanted to get some food and plus I’m not going today. I have to go shopping with my best friend because she’s throwing a party at the school tomorrow and I’m the entertainment.” I said.15

“Oh. Who’s Justin?” I pointed to Justin sitting down. “That’s Justin. Justin the delinquent.” “Yep and that’s Emma the rebel.” Justin smirked. I stuck my tongue out at him. Cesar laughed. “Wow. So about this party am I invited?” He asked. “Hell yeah. If you want, but mind the preppy people.” I said. He chuckled. “Will do.” I smiled. I started backing up to go back to my table when someone bumped into me. “Watch where your going emo.” Someone said. I turned around instantly. Just like I thought she was a prep. “Watch where your going dumbass and I’m not emo for your information.” I said.16

“Who the hell are you calling a dumbass?” She snapped. “You.” “Watch yourself. You have no idea who I am.” “I don’t care who you are. Call me emo one more time and I’ll smash your pretty little face in.” I said. Her eyes narrowed. “Emo.” She said. I smiled and made my hands into fists and got ready to punch her. “Emma.” Cesar said, grabbing my wrist. I pulled away and punched the girl in the face. She stumbled back and fell on the floor. I walked up to her. “I’m not emo and even if I was I wouldn’t like that you disrespect them. Emo people are cool and they make good friends. So if I were you I’d just forget about this and go name my car princess or powder my nose. Got that?” I said. She looked at me then at Justin and Cesar. 17

“Fine.” She got up and left. I turned back to everyone. They were all staring at me. “What? I hate preps.” I shrugged. They all laughed. I blinked. I had no idea what was so funny. I walked over to Cesar and Justin. “Does she do this all the time?” Cesar asked Justin. “Yep. You should have seen her beat up my ex- girlfriend. It was a bloody mess. Here my friend messaged me the video of them fighting.” Justin said, taking out his phone an showing Cesar the video. I waited patiently. When the video as over, Cesar looked at me. I smiled. “Damn Emma. I didn’t know you had it in you.” He said. “Yep. I do.” “Your strong enough to fight them, but your powerless against me.” I grinned. “Is that a bet?” 18

“Yeah, but not now.” He said. I nodded. “If I was able to take Justin, I think I could take you.” “You did not take me. We were equal. No one won, no one lost.” Justin said. “Are you sure about that?” I asked, “Yes. The phone is proof. My friend messaged me that fight too.” He went into his messages and showed me the fight. Crap. He was right. No one won. We were equal. “Fine you win this one. But I will win.” I said. He laughed. “That will be the day.” he said. I folded my arms across my chest and stuck my tongue out at him. “Well I’m going to go now. Jade’s probably up and probably knows I’m missing. Bye Cesar. Oh and hey I need your phone number.” I said walking over to him. He took my phone and put his number in.19

I smiled and turned around. “Ok thanks. I’ll call you later. Ok.” “Ok. Peace Emma.” He said. I got into Justin’s car and he drove us back. When we got back, I thanked him for the food and made my way to Jade’s room. She was already up. “So superwomen what’s the rush?” I asked, leaning on her doorpost. She turned around and looked at me. “Shut up. I’ve been looking for you for about an hour now. Where have you been?” She asked. “At Dunkin Dounts with your brother.” “Which one?” “The delinquent.” She sighed. “Which one Emma?” I almost forgot that she had three delinquent brothers. “Justin.” I said. She stopped.20

“Justin?” She asked. “Yeah Justin. He came here at six and wanted to ask you something, but you were sleeping. Then he asked if I wanted to go to get some food with him and you know me. I can’t turn down food so I said yes.” I explained. She just looked at me and blinked. “Justin?” She said again. I knew she had no idea what I just said. “Yes Justin.” “Wow. Eh I guess I’m not surprised. Whatever let’s go.” She grabbed my arm and pulled me downstairs. We went to the mall and she bought the clothes. I have to admit she bought me a nice dress. When I got back I went straight to sleep.21

I woke up around eight in the morning. Thanks to Jade. I took a shower and put some clothes on then went downstairs. “Emma. Help me” Adam whispered as Jade gave him orders where to put stuff. I giggled. “Well finally your up.” She said looking at me. “Yep. I’m up and guess what I’m going to hang out with a friend so I’m up and I’m out the door.” I sad, walking outside. “Hey get back here.” Everyone laughed. She ran after me. “Here. Take your clothes. You’ll change wherever your going.” She handed me the clothes and left. 22

I took out my phone and called Cesar. “Yes Emma?” He answered. I smiled to myself. “Want to hang out until like seven?” I asked. “Sure. I’ll pick you up and we’ll go to my house.” He said. “Okays.” I hung up. I waited for like ten minutes. Then I saw a black Porsche pull up and some one put the window down. “Are you coming?” Cesar said. I got in and turned to him. “You have a Porsche?!?!?!” I said, half screaming. “Yes I do. Why surprised?” He said, laughing. I thought about. “No. Not really”23

He laughed again and accelerated. When pulled up to this big white house. My mouth hung open. He chuckled. “You have a really nice house and you pay it just by working at Dunkin Donuts?” I asked. “No. My parents pay for it. I just work so I could buy stuff that’s not important.” He laughed. He parked in the driveway and we got out. “Nice. I do that, but I don’t work. I just unimportant stuff anyway.” I laughed. He grabbed my arm and pulled me inside. Inside the house was beautiful.24

He pulled me upstairs to his room. I sat on his bed. “This is comfy.” I said. He looked at me and smirked. “Just how comfy?” He asked. I got up and punched him in the arm. “Stop thinking like that.” He smiled. For the rest of the day we just hung out in his room and played hide and seek. I know hide and seek right? Well he had the perfect house for it and I was bored.25

When it was about seven, I decided to change. “Can I take a shower here?” I asked. “Sure. It’s down the hall to the left.” I got up and went to the bathroom. I got in the shower and just stood there for five minutes. God damn Jade. I didn’t feel like singing at all. After my shower, I wrapped a towel around myself and made my way towards his room. He looked at me and took in my appearance. I stared back at him awkwardly. If you were in my position you would do the same thing. I’m practically naked and here I am standing right in front of him!!26

I grabbed my clothes and went into the closet and closed the door. His closet was big and it had a mirror. “You know Cesar I might sleep over here a couple of times.” I said, putting on my clothes. “I hope you do. It’ll be fun. Plus I hate being here with my brother.” He said. “Your brother lives here?” “Yeah. He’s on vacation. He’s leaving in a week.” I put my converses on and came out. “Well that must suck for you.” I said. He smiled at me. I went over to his mirror and put my eyeliner on. He came behind me. “How old are you?” I asked. “17.” He said. I turned to him. “Really? You look more 19.”27

He chuckled. “Let’s go Emma before that Jade chick starts calling you.” I smiled and put my bag over my shoulder. “Very nice outfit by the way.” He said. Jade really know how to make me look like a rebel. I had a black and white strapless short dress on with black converse and a skull black necklace and a bracelet. “Thank you. I know I look hot.” I said, sticking my tongue out at him. “Yes you do. You look really hot.” He said teasingly.28

We got in his car and he drove us to my death. When we got there I couldn’t believe my eyes. School didn’t even look like school anymore. I should have known Jade was never one to make things look undecorated. I giggled when I saw Cesar’s face. I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the stage. I caught up with Jade. “Finally your here. You guys are up first.” She said, pushing me towards the stage. “So what’s first?” I asked Ian. “Pressure by Paramore.” He whispered. I nodded and grabbed the mic.29

Zack started with the drums then everyone else kicked in. I waited a few minutes and then I started singing. When I was done, everyone was clapping. While except the preps and the cheerleaders. I doubt they knew who Paramore was anyway. I took a deep breath as they started playing the other song which was by Avril Lavigne. I started singing and throughout the whole song I couldn’t help, but stare at Justin. The thing that surprised me though was that he started back. I really didn’t like his girlfriend. His ex-girlfriend anyway.30

When I was done, I just dropped the mic and stared at Justin for about three minutes before getting off the stage. I walked down and met Cesar halfway. “That was pretty good, but who were you starting at?” He asked. “Nobody.” I said. He shrugged and walked over to Jade. Zack came up behind me and wrapped his arm around my waist. “You were great.” He said, his lips to my ear. Something about this felt wrong. I pulled away from him and walked away without saying anything.31

I bumped into Justin while I was walking away. He looked at me. “You were good.” He said. “Thanks.” I said, shyly. Wait what? I was shy?? Me of all people???!!! He smiled at me. I blushed. Omg I blushed? What was Justin doing to me? I really liked him though. “Emma. I- I” I pressed my lips to his. I don’t know why I did it, but it felt so good. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer. 32

At that moment, I felt like it was only us two. I know we weren’t alone though. Everyone was looking at us, but you know what I didn’t care. He pulled back and put his forehead to mine. He smiled. “You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to do that.” He said. I smiled. I turned around to see people staring. I didn’t care about them though. I was too busy looking at Zack. He looked hurt. I just kissed his brother right in front of him. “Zack,” I said. He looked at me and walked away. I sighed. This wasn’t going to end well. “Now I see why Justin broke up with me.” Carrie said. I turned to face her.33

“Carrie as much as I want to argue with you, I’m busy right now so please go do something cheery or sluttish.” I said. “Oh I’m sluttish. Look who’s talking. Your dating Zack and you just kissed his brother. I’m not the slut this time you are.” She said. My hands made fists. I wasn’t a slut. “What you can’t believe it can you? Now the emo chick is the slut and the cheerleader isn’t.” I punched her. She fell. “I’m not a slut. I never was.” I said angrily and walked away.34
