Part Two (Moon and Night)

The bell rings to signal class is over. The clink between the two necklaces was yesterday’s news. Selene tries to hand the necklace back with ease, but her hands are shaky; uncontrollably shaky. Nyx is still laughing and chuckles out, “I’ll see you at lunch girl,” and with that Nyx just walks away. Selene is just left there standing alone. She is wondering, she is confused, but more or less she is surprised. 1

The girl from her dreams has just shown up at her school. She is in two of her classes so far, and she just realized that the Greek myth she thought was never true, really is. What else will Selene discover today? 2

Throughout the rest of her morning, Nyx doesn’t have any other classes with her. However, they do sit together when lunch finally starts. Selene tries to find her through the crowd, trying to not look curious, but casual. She spots Nyx on the other side of the lunch room with a bunch of other girls. “Looks like she already made friends,” she whispers to herself. Walking over to the table where the group is, Selene feels uncomfortable but smiles with ease. 3

The girls at the table stop talking to Nyx and look up and Selene. They all exchange hellos as the group of girls get up and leave. Selene sits down next to Nyx gently. “I’m sorry about freaking you out with the necklace during second hour.” Nyx tries to apologize but can’t stop smiling.4

“It’s cool. I should’ve known you were trying to tell me something.” During lunch, nothing special happened. Selene learned that Nyx moved down from way up north because her mom got a job offering. She always was told Nyx’s dad died when she was really young and didn’t have a father figure in her life. Selene and Nyx opened up about their life in just a matter of minutes.5

As they were getting up heading off to sixth hour, Nyx says, “Selene, in the note I told you I thought I’ve met you somewhere before.” Nyx hesitates on the next line before looking into Selene’s deep brown eyes. “This may sound weird, but I think I’ve seen you…”6

Selene finishes the sentence with the exact words, “In your dreams?” Selene smiles while Nyx is worried about the reaction. She nods answering the question scared to speak any further. “Nyx, I thought the same thing. I’ve had this reoccurring dream for over a month and it won’t go away.” They reach Nyx’s sixth hour class not noticing the few seconds before the bell.7

Before scurrying into the Math room, Nyx whispers, “You are too cute to be straight.” With those words lingering in her ear, and the smile spread across Nyx’s face, the bell rings with Nyx running into class. 8

Selene just stands there in the middle of the hall, late for the first time in her high school years. The words are still repeating in her head as she slowly moves to class. She thought the only thing she’d discover was her background and why she was here. Selene walks into class dazed as her Novel Studies teacher, Mrs. Shep, marks her tardy shaking her head. “You are late Miss Gold, take a seat and work on your reading assignment for the day.” 9

Not paying attention, Selene sits down and begins work like usual. Instead of actually doing the assignment, she makes a list. Down the left side of her paper she has the facts: Greek name, really cute, few classes together, same necklace, and maybe gay. 10

The bell rings to signal school is over. Selene dashes out of the classroom to hunt down Nyx. Zipping through the students, trying not to throw anyone off course, she runs around the school three times before giving up. Finally slumping next to her car, she receives a text message from an unknown number. Looking at her phone, she reads, “Hiyah! Left early txt this # Need 2cu 2nite 10 by the river.”
