Timid

His warm hand clutched hers, their fingers entwined in loving embrace. It was something that she dreamed would never end, and something that he saw as temporary. When their lips met, the sparks still tingled in their minds, leaving them speechless afterwords. He remained silent. She whispered, "I love you."1

He stood and smiled at her, devilishly handsome in the moonlight. His eyes a starry blue, hers ivy green. They shared in the silent moments together, the hopeful and the hopeless. He knew it was soon to end. His timid heart longed to be forever embraced but would never receive its wish.2

It wasn't because of his looks; he was the most charming boy around. He was shy, and it kept him from doing some of the things that most of the girls wanted. He never knew that the girl standing with him didn't want those things. She loved him the way he was. Her smile didn't falter when he was around.3

His name was Ivan, and hers was Samantha. They shared their dreams together, one mind in another. Each beat of their heart matched their wishes to be together forever. With each beat he began to worry; with each beat she smiled.4

"She'll leave me soon," he thought.5

"I'll love him forever," she thought.6

They never knew each others' inner mind completely. A few glimpses told either that they really did love each other. They just didn't know how long it would last.7

Ivan gave up waiting on his disposal. "Samantha, please just leave me already."8

Samantha shook her head, "I would never leave you."9

"Everybody does. I'm..."10

"I don't want what the others want."11

It was then that the timid, hopeless Ivan became confident and smiled. The smile was genuine, and forever sealed the two in a loving embrace.
