Hawaii style fireworks

1

The acrid smoke filters vision to a haze of dull light and shouts. It smells like welding. Hot and choking in the lungs. Blinding flashes bring sulfur to the arena. The din is deafening. My ears hurt, my eyes hurt, There is an incessant ringing from the pops and bangs. And even with my eyes closed there is a red flash blaring in my sight. I hunker down not really sure where to look. The kids across the way have a small fire. Im not sure if it was an accident but they are making use of it. The throw on a pile of fireworks. The explosive chatter forms a canyon of noise and the echoes bounce and recede and drown in the lights. Purple flashes and neon blue. Bits of red appear and white blinding arcs shoot across the sky. Im not sure if it is my startled jumps or if the ground is actually shuddering at the excesses. Ive never been in this. It is like a battle of light and sound, each fighting the other to foist itself onto our meager attentions. I feel like spinning around and around as I glimpse a new explosion or a flash from the corner of my eye and chase it to the next and the next and the next. I get dizzy and decided to sit. Is it raining? no, the cacophony of sound is messing with my senses. The smoke thins as a breeze attempts to pass. Flowing gray shrouds the path as soon as it has gone. I miss the firework wars.2
