Her Guardian Angel

“You wouldn’t believe how stupid those girls are! Ugh, they’re getting on my last nerve!” Tryne growled as she shuffled to the lunchroom. “What is the matter, Tryne?” Kaida, a girl with fairly long jet-black hair and gray eyes, hidden by navy blue-rimmed glasses asked, as she jaunted by her peeved friend. “Oh, hey Kaida. It’s Shannon and those other… bitches!”1

“Please, calm yourself. Explain why you are expressing the emotion, “anger,” for me.” Tryne stopped and sighed, looking at Kaida. “You don’t have to talk like that, you know. I can hardly understand you when you do, silly!” She flashed a smile. “Yes, I apologize. What did Shannon and the others do?” Kaida pushed her glasses up to her face, and started walking to the lunchroom. 2

“That is all?” Both were in the lunchroom, and Tryne had just explained what happened classes earlier.3

“What do you mean, “that is all?” They’re horrible!” Tryne ran a hand through her dyed blonde hair, frustrated. “I am… sorry. I did not know how unhappy that made you.” Kaida took out her school binder and a pencil. “It’s not your fault, I know. I shouldn’t be putting you through this. Sorry.” Kaida looked up at her bronze-eyed friend. “It is all right. But, if anyone should pay, it is Shannon and her friends.”4

“Got that right.” Tryne agreed whole-heartedly and began to eat her instant cup of ramen. Kaida tilted her head at the other girl. “If you dislike them so, why must you accompany them everywhere?” The blonde leaned back and thought for a moment. “I don’t know,” she admitted, “I guess it’s just ‘cause they want me to hang around with them. School status, you know.”5

Kaida nodded, even though she strongly disagreed with the last statement; school status is for fools who think they’ll be a somebody if they participate. “But… it causes you discomfort.” Tryne shrugged, “You get used to it,” was her only reply. A pause in the conversation. “… May I come over to your house today?” Kaida shyly asked.6

“Course you can! But I gotta talk to Shannon on the damn computer though.” 7

“That is fine. I will wait.” 8

“Nah, no need. You can come over and hang out while I amuse the whore.” Tryne winked at the uncertain brunette. 9

Kaida and Tryne are complete opposites; Tryne is the popular, fun, and loving girl, while Kaida is the seemingly depressed, aloof, and quietly independent type. Their friendship dated back into kindergarten when Tryne offered Kaida a piece of her peanut butter cookie. Lately, though, they have been spending less and less time together. All because of Shannon and her “posse.” Ever since Tryne and Kaida entered high school, that girl has been trying to break them apart.10

It has been working, but since Shannon started pressuring Tryne into things, such as cheating, drinking, drugs, and sex, the poor girl has gone back to Kaida for advice. Basically, Tryne would tell everything to Kaida – usually overemphasize – and the calm girl would just sit back, listen, nod occasionally, and then offer innocent comments. The blonde appreciated having support, someone to listen to. But for Kaida, that wasn’t enough; annoyed and spiteful, she wanted to end this problem. Fortunately, Tryne couldn’t see that ball of dark flame hidden behind Kaida’s glaring glass lenses.11

“Your room has… changed.”12

“Like it? We sorta had to remodel it, cause it was getting to be too small.”13

“I see.” Kaida took a seat on Tryne’s queen-sized bed. “Are you going to communicate with Shannon right now?” She asked quietly. This caused Tryne to let out a small groan. “Oh yeah. She’s so demanding, you know? After lunch, I even told her and her buddies off, but they totally ignored that! You’d think they’re retarded or something…” Still muttering empty insults, she turned on the computer and waited for her Instant Messaging system to pop up. Kaida narrowed her eyes, the dark flame feasting off her annoyance and irritation growing.14

“Well anyway, just gimmie a minute and I’ll get rid of her real quick, okay?” Tryne cheerfully assured. “Yes. Of course.” Kaida agreed. While Tryne typed to her so-called “friend,” thoughts about Shannon spreaded through Kaida’s head like wildfire. “Tryne! Honey! I need you to help me in the kitchen!” Tryne’s mother, Aubrey, called. “But mom! I’m with a friend! Tell her, Kaida!” 15

Kaida shook her head. “It is all right. Go help your mother. I will wait.” Tryne frowned at her submissive pal. “You’re no fucking help… I’m comin’!” Before she could type an “away” message to Shannon, she ran into the kitchen. “… Finally.” Kaida slowly, almost gracefully, stood up, and glanced at the computer. She strolled over to the computer chair and comfortably sat down, as if a queen on her throne.16

-tryne? r u therre?- Shannon typed repeatedly.17

-I apologize, Shannon. The one whom you were communicating with is currently unavailable.- Kaida replied to Shannon’s butchered literature.18

-wut? wherre is she? tryne! wate, who r u?-19

-Who I am is of no concern to you.-20

-psssh! u’re her sis, arnt u? get tryne rite now!-21

-I am not her sister. If you wish to label me someone, then call me- Kaida paused for a moment before sending her next instant message.22

-Call me Tryne’s Guardian Angel. Shannon, I am virtually speaking with you to discuss a… problem you and Tryne are facing.-23

-problum? wut problum?-24

-You are the problem. You are hurting Tryne with your incessant nagging, and perverse persuasion into drugs and sex. As her Angel, I cannot allow that.-25

There was a long pause before Shannon started to type again.26

-wtf? stay outta it, u looser. nobody. get off of her comp, bytch!- 27

-If you do not comply with my simple request, I will have no other choice but to force unfortunate events to occur in your life. Are you comprehending what I am threatening to do to you if you do not stay away from my Tryne? I hope you do, or you will suffer. This is not a prank, or even an Ashton Kutcher “Punk’d!” I am nothing but serious.-28

Yet another long, long pause before Shannon decided to reply. 29

-who r u?-30

-As I told you before; I am Tryne’s Guardian Angel. Goodbye, Shannon. I hope you decide to do what is best for you, and your family.- Kaida logged off, just in time for Tryne to walk in, and for Kaida to tell her that Shannon decided to call it a night.31

Days passed, and Tryne was amazed. Shannon, and all of her friends left her alone. Whenever Tryne would walk up to them for a little chitchat, they would swiftly run off, as if the curious blonde had an incurable disease.32

“I don’t get it,” Tryne was talking to Kaida at lunch, “why aren’t they talking to me?” Kaida was reading a book, Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception. “I do not understand it either, my friend. Perhaps they have finally decided to leave you be.”33

“Oh,” Tryne tilted her head, “cool.” Before Kaida could reply with a reassurance, Shannon, and three other girls stormed up to the two. “Come on, Tryne! Let’s go! Now!” Shannon grabbed Tryne’s shoulder and forced her to her feet. The dark flame that was disappearing flared up again behind Kaida’s eyes. “But! But, Shannon-” 34

“No fucking buts! Come on! Say goodbye to your stupid Gothic wannabe pal there!” Before Tryne could motion to say a farewell, Shannon and the others dragged her away from the table. Kaida kept quiet, her anger engulfing her sensitive mind. Until, finally, she spoke only one sentence to herself, “It would appear… that Shannon wishes the Wrath of an Angel upon her sinful head.”35

The following day, Tryne tried to apologize to Kaida for what happened, over the phone, on the computer, and in the flesh, but no matter where she went, she couldn’t find Kaida. At her house, at the mall, even at the school. She began to sprout a sapling of worry. “Where is she? What if she was kidnapped, or ran away, or-”36

“Tryne, shut the fuck up. Who cares about that stupid girl?” Shannon lit a cigarette. Both were leaning against the east wall of the school. Shannon had persuaded Tryne to ditch class, promising that they would look for Kaida. She was lying, of course. “You shut up! I need to find her! You probably pissed her off the other day!” Tryne spat angrily. 37

Shannon let out a puff of black smoke, then slapped Tryne across the face. “Go look for her then, you pathetic whore.” After that insult and attack, Tryne ultimately ignored Shannon and took off running towards the downtown area. “I hope a car runs over your ass.” The cruel red head put out the cigarette and put her nose in the air.38

“It is not very polite to wish death of another being, Shannon Tucker. That can bring very bad karma.” Shannon whipped her head around to see Kaida in a long black coat and a pair of dark blue knitted gloves. “What the…?! Where the hell did you come from, whore?” The arrogant girl narrowed her eyes at the ghostly Kaida. “Why, from the shadows, of course. You see, I warned you to stay away from Tryne. I warned you that if you hurt her, you would pay a heavy price.”39

Shannon’s eyes slowly widened after acquainting that with her memory. “You… you’re that sick idiot that typed to me!” She pointed an accusing finger. “Ah, so you do have a functioning brain in that painted up head of yours after all.” Kaida smiled warmly. “Well then, you should have no problem with this equation,” she started walking forward. “Stay away from me, you crazy fuck!” Shannon backed away, only to trip over a metal pole connecting the school to the drainage system in the ground.40

“What does your pretty little head,” Kaida motioned towards the scared girl, “plus my gun,” she lifted her coat, and took out a small loaded hand gun from an inside pocket, and pointed it directly at Shannon’s forehead, “equal? Please answer.” She smiled again. “P-please n-no… no, don’t!” The red head shivered, almost in tears. “D-don’t shoot me…!” Kaida narrowed her eyes, face emotionless. “I am afraid I cannot comply with your simple request, Shannon. You did not agree to my terms, now I shall not agree to yours.”41

“N-no!” A gun shot. A sound, not too quiet and not too loud, was broadcasted from the gun. Anyone besides Kaida who heard it, dismissed it as a “noise.”42

“I apologize, Tryne.” Kaida cloaked the gun under her coat, and tried to wipe off any blood on her body. She glanced at Shannon’s corpse. “But I did what I thought was right. I could not stand by and let you be treated like dirt. I could have gone to the teachers, but Shannon would have gotten out of the situation with her rich father. Her family as a whole, but their heads are too far up their asses. I tried to talk you out of being Shannon and her friends’ toy, but you would not listen.” She ran one gloved hand through her straight hair, and looked up to the cloudy sky. 43

“I hope you will be able to forgive your Guardian Angel.”44
