Broken Harmony Chapter 1

Waking up that morning seemed impossible. The sun intruded into our room and rolled over to find Peter missing. This was nothing unusual. He did it all the time. To my dislike of course. 1

I got out of bed and headed downstairs to the kitchen. The house seemed quiet, which I found to be very odd. As my feet touched the bottom step, I heard a strange noise come from the living room. Turning the corner, I was presented with a heartbreaking discovery. Taelia was nearly dead on the couch. Tears stung at my eyes. 2

“What happened?” I asked rushing to her side. 3

“Werewolves. They attacked her last night.” Viktor replied. 4

“I don’t understand. What was she doing out there? Was she coming back?” I asked. 5

“I…..came…..to…..warn…..you” Taelia forced through her lips. 6

Her body was terribly mangled. Most of her belly was torn to shreds. My heart cried for her. Someone so close to us but yet so far. She had chosen to leave us when we returned to Washington six years ago. The death of Cameron was something she just couldn’t comes to terms with. I blamed myself. But she insisted it wasn’t my fault. Cameron died so I could live. 7

“Warn us of what?” Peter asked, confusion tainting his voice. 8

“Harmony…….she lives…….” Her breath was labored and the words stuck into me like a knife. 9

“Taelia, that’s impossible. Harmony is dead.” I replied, trying to hold back tears. 10

“Marie, I have seen her with my eyes. She lives.” 11

I stepped back, not really knowing what to think of this discovery. Harmony was dead. I knew this because I killed her. Then burned her body. This just wasn’t possible. Reasoning did not exist in my head any longer, my mind swam around the idea of our daughter still being alive. I felt cool hands, Peters, grab my cheeks. 12

“Marie?”13

Nothing came out of my mouth. What was there to say? I had no doubt in Taelia. She risked her life to bring this news to us. But why did she say warn? 14

“MARIE!”15

I ignored Peter. Needing to know why Taelia felt she needed to warn of us of our daughters health. Pushing past Peter, I went back to her. Looking into her eyes. I saw fear. 16

“Why would you have to warn us?”17

“The Ritual worked Marie. Harmony is more powerful than any of us combined. I watched her destroy a whole coven. Alone. Because she could. No reasoning behind it. She is searching for you and Peter. Marie, she is angry. And she knows about Shilah.” Taelia explained. 18

My eyes grew wide. Shilah. How could she know about her? Is she angry because of what I did? Fear quickly grew in me. Panic came even faster. 19

“We need to leave…”20

“Marie, let’s not be rash.”Peter pleaded. 21

“Let’s not be rash. Peter, I lost our first daughter. I will be DAMNED if I am going to lose Shilah!” I yelled through held back tears. 22

At that moment, Shilah walked in. She looked so much like Peter. Dark curly brown hair. Tanned complexion. Her eyes proved to us that she had heard a lot. 23

“You had another daughter?” 24

I was hoping this day would never come. Trying to explain to Shilah what happened all those years ago. Telling her about Harmony. 25

“Yes.” Peter answered first. 26

“Why didn’t I know anything about this?”27

“It all happened before you were born Shilah. We just wanted the right moment to tell you.”28

“That I had a sister. How old is she?”29

“I guess she would be about 7 years old. So about 21 years old in physical appearance.”30

“Dad, why would you guys keep this from me?”31

“We just didn’t want to upset you with it. Shilah, your sister was supposed to be dead.”32

Her mouth fell open. This news was not what she expected to hear. I watched her go through all the emotions. Sadness, anger, acceptance. She got that from me. The ability to show so many emotions at one time. But I could see that her anger was lingering. 33

“Dead? I don’t understand. And can you please tell me who the hell is on our couch?”34

Glancing over at Taelia, I was relieved to see she was beginning the healing process. For a moment, we all thought she was going to die. Talon brought some cooled bagged blood from the basement, an emergency supply, and hooked her up to it. Something I was all too familiar with. 35

“Shilah this is Taelia. A very old friend.” I introduced. 36

Taelia gave a weakened nod and Shilah just smiled. She turned her attention back to us. 37

“Well, I guess you two have some things to start explaining.” She replied. 38

Peter and I looked at each other and silently replied it was time to tell her the whole story. We took her down to the lake and began the long story of Harmony. The whole time she remained quiet and listened intently. 39
