On Tuesday, September 9th, 2023, Devin Brees wakes up knowing that there is no tomorrow, not for him, not for anyone. He is alone in this knowledge. 1
He wakes at 6 am, leaving 18 hours until midnight to live the life he wanted. 18 hours to fall in love, mend fences, and finish his great work.2
Is he mad? Or is he just sane enough to see the end coming? You twist the reader around, leaving clues for both. You find the kind of character who falls in love with someone who certainly appears mad. You find out how badly a man wants reconciliation if he knows he will never have another chance. You find out if doing the work matters if no one will be there to see it.3
And at the end, maybe the world ends. Maybe it doesn't. Or maybe the reader is left to guess. The rest of the story will determine the ending far better than this prompt.4
