A Summer's Day

I take a breath, and plunge into the icy cold water of the deep, streaming river. The water splashes as I sink down to the bottom, pushing hard down with my legs to spring back up again to the surface.1

I choke for air at the top, my lungs colder than the water. I slip and slide on the rocks out of the river and lie down on a large, warm stone. The warmth soaks into my cold, wet body as I lay there, panting slightly.2

I stand up and stretch my arms out in front of me, then strip down to my singlet and track shorts, hanging the rest of my wet clothes over a tree branch to dry.3

I lay down in the long, lush green grass, swaying in the breeze. I can hear the light buzz of bumblebees flying lazily around. My eyelids drooped as I fell into light sleep.4

The setting sun woke me up. Streaks of blue, violet, orange, yellow, pink...a beautiful sky to wake up to. Crickets were chirping by now, and the hum of bees buzzing was gone. A lone swallow was sounding its call.5

I sat up and yawned, stretching my arms up and rubbing my eyes. The river led along to my house, so I grabbed my now-dry clothes, pulled them on, and made my way back home.6

As I walked along the gravel path, unlocking the gate, and swinging it open to enter the front garden, the sun set, making an end to another summer's day.
