The house is huge and old but mostly I found it to be … beautiful. Just like the rest of the town-, well what I had seen of it- was shrouded by tall trees. The house was run down with many panels missing from the side of the house and almost all of the windows were boarded up. I looked up at the one window, which was not boarded and saw a dark figure. My heart jumped up into my throat and started to beat loudly in my ears; I was just about to call to my dad when it disappeared. I must be seeing things. I only saw the figure for only about 2 seconds, but it scared the crap out of me.1
I walked up the gravel path leading up the steps to the wrap around porch. The old ornate door was wide open revealing a huge ballroom - which was filled with most of the furniture we brought with us. I stepped around one of fifty boxes that littered the ballroom and stepped into the kitchen.2
‘Hey babe what’s wrong?’ mom was unpacking one of the boxes of food into the cupboards3
‘No nothing’ I replied shaking my head and smiling warmly at her ‘hey is it ok if I start my room?’ she shook her head “no” so I headed up the stairs that was off the kitchen. The rest of the afternoon, I was busy with setting up my room and helping cart more boxes into the ballroom.4
That night I awoke with a start-with the overwhelming sense of being watched. In the darkness, I could see a figure standing at the very end of my bed. It was the same dark figure I had seen earlier. I was to terrified to move I lay there watching the dark figure watch me. Trembling, I managed to pull the duvet up and over my head. After a few minutes, I peeked up and it was gone. I could not get back to sleep the rest of the night. The next morning I stumbled down to the kitchen where mom and dad were eating their breakfast. I sat down and grabbed a piece of toast5
‘You look like hell, didn’t you get any sleep?’ dad was always the one to give out compliments, I gave him my best shut-up-or-I-will-hurt-you look before I replied6
‘Yeah well I couldn’t sleep last night. Hey did anyone hear anything last night or see anything?’ I took a bite of my toast, looking curiously at my parents preying they seen something to.7
‘No. it’s just a new house Leah, plus its old so your bound to hear stuff go bump in the night’ mom stood and grasp my shoulder and smiled before walking over to the sink.8
After breakfast, I headed up to the balcony. I was too tired to help unpack. The view from the balcony was breath taking, I could see over the trees and the town. The sounds of the birds singing the trees comforted me. The sky was a beautiful bright shade of blue; I sat staring up at the sky feeling the subtle but nice breeze caressing my face. Sitting on the balcony was so peaceful I knew for sure it would be my favourite place to be for years to come. My peace shattered though when I felt the all too familiar feeling of being watched, my eyes snapped open and I scanned the balcony beside me. Nothing. However, as I leaned back into the chair I caught a glimpse of the dark figure out of the corner of my eye. I stood and spun around to face it. It was nestled in the shadow of an open door and stared at me, before it started to move into the light from my bedroom, which was still blaring. My breath caught in my throat as I saw what was in front of me. His eyes held mine, but broke it when he smiled. His smile could make ice melt inside of the damn freezer. He looked not much old than me-15 maybe even 16. His blonde hair framed his face. My heart sped up how can someone so cute but so scary. He pulled his hand up to his face, placed his finger over his lips, and gave a “shhh” sound. Before he took off into my bedroom. I could not help it but adrenalin flowing in my veins I took off running after him. As soon as I got into my bedroom, unadulterated fear coursed through me. I stopped dead in my tracks as soon as I saw…he was nowhere in sight. Within 2 seconds, he disappeared into thin air.9
It was then I realised he was not human. But what exactly was he? Whatever he was I was going to find out. Tonight when he comes back, I am going to get answers.
