Its a Warning!

To all my readers,1

this story has elements of truth.2

IT CAN HAPPEN! DON'T GET TOO CLOSE TO PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET!3

On Saturday the 18th of November I got the first of many texts from an unknown number. They started with the usual ‘hey, how’s it going’ etc. Then they turned into flirty, unusual texts asking me about myself and if I had an email address. Of course I just thought it was my own little secret admirer so I gave him my email address, I didn’t think any harm would come to it. After a few days the texts stopped and we were chatting more by email. 4

“He’s just logged on! What should I say?” I said to my friend Lucy on the phone.5

“Say hi, that could be a start.”6

“Yeah. That’s good. Thanks Lucy, you’re so good with boys. By saying hi I won’t sound so excited to hear from him and I won’t sound horrible like I’m not happy to hear from him. You’re the best Lucy!” I said excitedly as I typed ‘hi’ in an email. “I really like this guy Lucy! He’s really nice to me.”7

“Well I have to go but all I can say is BE CAREFUL!”. Lucy hung up and I sat staring at the screen waiting for a reply.8

Around ten minutes later a small screen popped up in the corner of my desktop, it said ‘you have one new email’. As I read those 5 words blood rushed faster through my body than it had even done before.9

It’s beautiful. I thought as I read the ‘hi’ he’d sent back. Urgently another email covered my screen.10

‘MEET ME’ it said.11

I didn’t know what to do, I needed advice.12

I dialed a number in my phone and sat with it on speaker.13

“Hello?”14

“GRANNY! I need advice!” I said relying on my grandma to help me.15

I told her the story and also mentioned my feelings.16

“Well, do you want to know what I would do?” She said.17

“Yes. I really would.”18

“I’d make some cheese on toast” I was confused with granny’s last comment.19

“What?”20

“You did tell me you wanted advice didn’t you?”21

“Yes”22

“And you did tell me a long boring story about something didn’t you?”23

“Boring? This is the story of my life!”24

“Did I say boring. I meant wonderful. And your story was about being hungry and not knowing what you wanted to eat wasn’t it?”25

“NO! Right listen again!” I explained it again. “So what do you think?” I asked her.26

There was no answer. I checked on my phone and her number wasn’t up on the screen any more. She hung up! I went on call logs and found out that she hung up over 10 minutes ago so I was just talking to myself.27

The next day at school I asked people what I should do, but I used my sister instead of me.28

“My sisters had been talking to this guy over the internet. He’s really nice to her and he wants to meet up with her. What should she do?” I asked a crowd of people outside the maths block.29

“Go for it!” Some said.30

“Find out more about him!” Others quoted.31

“I don’t think she should. She might get kidnapped or something.” Jessica-Lea said quietly.32

“Shut up Jessica. Just because you’ve never spoke to a boy before!” Someone said harshly.33

Jessica shyly left. I felt awful about that.34

That night I logged back onto my email and I had 5 new emails all saying the same thing ‘please meet me.’ 35

I decided to find a little more about him. I didn’t even know his name!36

Tell me about yourself. I replied to him.37

Well, I’m 15. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I weigh 9 ½ stone and my name is Billy Jones. So will you?38

He asked.39

Sure. I replied without even consulting anyone.40

On the 1st of December I got dressed up for my ‘date’. I curled my hair and did my makeup (a little more than usual). My dress was quite short and my heels were rather high. In my own eyes I looked gorgeous! In my dad’s eyes I looked like I was ‘trying to dress older than I was’.41

“I’m 14!” I told him.42

I lied to my family, telling them I was going to a birthday party at Lucy’s (even though she asked me to leave her out of it all).43

They believed me so I walked into the town centre. Which wasn’t far from my house. I got the 677 bus and got off in Clutchburgh. 44

I waited by a small closed down café. This was our meeting point. This street was deserted. I waited for ages. He didn’t turn up. I glanced at my watch and as I looked up a fat, old, ugly looking man strolled down the street.45

‘That’s not him’ I chuckled to myself.46

“Rachel Andrews right?” He said as he clenched his fist by his waist.47

“Yeah. Why? How do you know me?” I asked backing away.48

“Because…” He threw his fist in the air and as I walked backwards without looking I tripped over his size 11 foot. “I’m Billy!” He said as he smacked his fist right up my jaw.49

He then stood on my feet so I couldn’t move and forced me to sit up. I felt like I was going to die as he kept throwing these huge punches at me. My face getting more sore every minute. Then my heart stopped as he pulled out something shiny. My eyes were black and throbbing so I couldn’t see anything except the sparkle from this object. He held it’s sharp tip to my throat. I realized it was a KNIFE!50

“Any last words?” He said sniggering.51

My life was coming to an end. All because I had a crush on a boy, well man, I’d met over the internet. Suddenly I remembered Jessica-Lea’s exact words I don’t think she should. Thousands of questions and regrets ran through my head. Why didn’t I listen to Jessica? She was the smartest girl in our year. Why did I listen to all the idiots telling me to do this? Why did I listen to my heart and not my head?52

“This is it!” He yelled with the knife at my throat, digging in.53
