Sometimes lifes not fair.

And they’re on their way home with…1

“Amy! We’re home!”2

I mean, they’re home with ANOTHER baby! When will I ever be noticed? No one seems to care about me. It’s ALWAYS the new baby!3

Anyway diary,4

I’ve got to go greet them!5

Love Amy x6

“Hi dad! I’ve been writing more in my diary lately you know. Pages and pages of stuff.” I said trying to get dad’s attention.7

“Yeah, yeah. Go and see if your mother needs any help will you. Make her a bru.” And yet it didn’t work.8

“Sure dad. Anything to help the baby!”9

“Now that’s the spirit.”10

I strolled down the hallway and into the living room where my mum, my 4 older sisters(Jess, Olivia, Sophie and Sally) my 6 younger brothers(Callum, Joseph, George, Dillon, Sam and Ron) my 2 younger sisters(Isabelle and Carmen) my sister that was one year below me(Hannah) and of course the new baby, were sitting. 11

“Hi mum. Guess what…” I started to say but then mum butted in.12

“Yes. Yes. Hi. Now go and make your poor mother a bru.”13

“But mum…”14

“NOW PLEASE! Can’t you see I’m busy?” Mum groaned.15

“Well get a new hobby then. Instead of having a new baby every month.” I whispered spitefully under my breath.16

“What was that?” Mum asked.17

“Nothing. Nothing at all.” I stormed into the red and white painted kitchen and flicked the kettle’s switch to on.18

“NO-ONE EVER LISTENES!” I yelled.19

Carmen crawled in and stared straight up at me. She held her arms out as if to say ‘pick me up’.20

“No Carmen. I’m making mum’s bru. Just go away will you!” I said meanly to her.21

She started to cry, so I had to pick her up.22

“Sorry Carmen. I’m just so stressed. No-one ever listens to me.” I didn’t know why I was telling all of this to a 2 year old but still, she was a good listener.23

The kettle squealed so I put Carmen back on the floor. I forced a tea bag out of the jar and practically pored all of the left over sugar into mum’s tea cup. I picked up the kettle and poured in some of the boiling water. Steam floated off the tea and burnt my hand.24

“OUCH! FOR GOODNESS SAKE!” I yelled, even louder this time.25

When the tea had cooled down and my hand had stopped the insane stinging I squeezed the tea bag and threw it in the bin.26

“ HANNAH!” I screamed.27

Hannah came running.28

“Give this to mum.” I demanded.29

“Why can’t you do it. I’m busy on the phone.” Hannah can be cocky sometimes.30

It’s the group of friends she hangs about with at school. They’ve really changed her.31

“LOOK AT MY HAND! IT’S GONE NUMB NOW AND I NEED AN ICE PACK SO TAKE THIS TO MUM!” Hannah stood and stared at me, not even holding her hand out to take the cup. “NOW!”32

Accidentally but angrily I pushed the cup toward her and it spilt all down the front of her top.33

“Oops.” I couldn’t help but snigger.34

“OH MY GOODNESS AMY! YOU ALWAYS DO THIS. WHEN I GET NEW STUFF YOU GET JELOUS AND DO SOMETHING BAD TO IT! DON’T EVER TALK TO ME AGAIN!” She over reacted.35

This time it was an accident. I must admit there’s been a few times when I’ve wrecked her new clothes on purpose. Example:36

1. A few weeks ago she bought a skirt. I decided to try it on, just for fun. It looked really nice and I was jealous so I went outside and rolled in a mud puddle. It was filthy when I brought it back in. So I just hung it back up in her wardrobe.37

2. Last week she had bought this really nice top. It was pink and it said ‘TOTAL STAR’ in black on the front. Once again I was jealous so dipped in our spaghetti bolognaise tea. Then poured a bit of bleach on it.38

I guess I like winding her up.39

“MUM!” She howled. 40

I ran my hand under the cold water. I could hear Hannah groaning to mum. 41

The next thing I heard was dad’s footsteps. Pounding towards me.42

“WILL YOU JUST LEAVE YOUR SISTER ALONE! LEAVE US ALL ALONE. YOUR CAUSING SUCH A COMOTION!” Dad shouted directly into my face.43

“JUST GO TO AARON’S OR SOMETHING!” I decided to follow my dad’ orders, just so I wouldn’t cause any more trouble. My black leather jacket drooped off the coat rack.44

“I think I’ll wear this.” I dragged it down and squeezed it on. “Perfect.”45

I walked down a couple of streets and stopped at a small cottage with a blue door. Number 77. Aaron’s house. Whilst banging on the door I pulled out my phone. I had 2 text messages. One from my friend Emma telling me the details for her party and one from an unknown number. It said:46

Amy Matthews right?47

It’s Rosanna. Rosanna Brown. I wanna talk with you. See you at school after the summer holidays. I’ll be waiting.48

Happiness suddenly left my body and fear took over. Aaron’s front door unlocked and then opened.49

“Come in. Aaron’s upstairs. He’s with some girl. I think her name is Tamara.” Aaron’s dad Rick said to me.50

“Thanks Mr. Smith” I spoke quietly, and I made my way up the stairs even more quietly.51

His bedroom door was open ajar. I peeked through and saw him kissing this girl. Then I tripped over something and fell straight into his room.52

“Oh. I didn’t know you were coming Amy. This is…”53

He said, I butted in.54

“I know who she is.” As I said ‘she’ my eyes flew onto her.55

“Well hi. Nice to meet you.” Tamara said holding out her hand, being friendly.56

“DON’T touch me.” I moved away from her and walked to the door.57

“Don’t go!” Aaron said.58

“I hate you!” I ran out of his room, down the stairs and through the front door.59

“Are you ok Amy?” His dad shouted after me.60

I ignored him and ran as fast as my legs could carry me, back home.61

For an hour I sat in my room in shock. Aaron text me 10 times. I threw my phone out the door and slammed it shut. Olivia knocked on the door.62

“It’s me. Olivia. Can I come in?” She opened the door. “Can we talk?”63

I looked away.64

“Aaron came round before. He told me everything. He told me that you were upset over some girl. Tamari or something?”65

“Tamara.” I said, still not looking at her.66

“Yeah that’s the one. He told me that you thought your friendship was going to be spoilt because he had a girlfriend. He said he’d text you over 8 times.”67

“10 to be precise.” I slipped off my bed and slouched on the floor.68

“He said he would never ruin your friendship. He told me that you were best friends.”69

“Did he? Really?” I sat up.70

“I did. Really.” Aaron came through the door, Olivia left. “We’ve been friends since we were in nursery. Been on holiday with each other and even made a tree house together! We’ve spent our lives together Amy. That’s true friendship.”71

“But we made a pledge!” I said, patting the bed, making a gesture for him to come and sit down.72

“A pledge? When?” He asked.73

“Remember, we made a pledge at our tree house that we were never going to get a boyfriend or girlfriend because we’d have each other.”74

Aaron laughed.75

“What’s so funny?”76

“When we made that pledge we were 6. Things have changed.”77

“You can’t break a pledge.” I said, also laughing.78

“Well you’ve broken a pledge.”79

“Me? I’ve never broken a pledge!” My arms were now folded at this point.80

“You have. On that same day we pledged to never wash our faces. We pledged to never watch TV and be outsiders for the rest of our lives. Have you watched TV since then or washed your face?” Aaron winked at me.81

“Well yeah but…”82

“No buts! You’ve broken a pledge.”83

I giggled and then sat on the bed, beside Aaron.84

“So where is she?” I changed the mood in the atmosphere and also changed the subject.85

“She’s gone home. She said she felt awkward getting in the way so she left. Although we’re still a couple…” 86

“Oh right.” I said getting back on the floor.87

“You didn’t let me finish. We’re still a couple OF single people. I do like her though.” He nudged me and then walked to the door. ”Anyway I’ve got to go for tea. Call you later?”88

“Yeah.” I watched him leave and then pulled out my diary from under my bed.89

Dear diary,90

I thought I’d almost lost Aaron then! When I saw him kissing that girl my heart tore into pieces. He thinks I was upset because of our friendship but I was really upset because I liked him. Like I have done since the day we met. Although I don’t think we’ll ever be together. I don’t think fait, or cupid at that is on my side.91

That’s it for now,92

Amy x93

A few hours later I got a text from Aaron.94

Amy,95

I hope you don’t mind but I have to cancel our trip to the market on Saturday. I have a date with Tamara. She’s decided to take me back. Isn’t that great!96

Aaron.97

I didn’t text back. I thought he’d take the hint but when I waited by the blue shelter on Saturday he didn’t turn up. I ended up going to the market with mum and the new baby. I didn’t have fun. Mum made me pick out new baby clothes. It was torture!98

Later on, whilst sat in a café eating tea Aaron text me again.99

I had such a good time with Tamara. I’m glad you didn’t mind. I think she’s the one for me. 100

Mum leaned in and read my text.101

“Is that Aaron? Does he have a girlfriend now? WOW!” Then she paused. “Wait. Don’t you like Aaron?”102

“No way! We’re friends. Just friends. That would be too weird.” I said blushing.103

“Ok. Well anyway, I have news.” Mum said.104

“Don’t tell me. You’re pregnant. AGAIN!” I said sounding bored.105

“NO!” Mum looked down at her stomach. “Why do I look pregnant in this dress?” I gave her the ‘hurry up’ look and then she carried on. “We’re MOVING! To the country!” She said excitedly.106

“What? But mum!” All the memories of me and Aaron together ran through my head like a small film on at the cinema. “I’m not going!”107

“Oh yes you are and that’s that.” Mum demanded.108

“I’m NOT!” I stormed out the café, down past the market and sat under a big tree.109

“ Every things going wrong! I’m not going. I’m not!” I mumbled.110

“Your not going where? What’s going wrong?” A man sat on top of a shop roof asked. There was so many questions I wanted to ask him, but I held them in.111

I never noticed him when I sat down.112

“It doesn’t matter”113

“Come on. Tell me. I might be able to help.” He smiled a cheesey grin at me and I gave in. I told him everything.114
