Chapter 2 Spirited Away2

Darkness, spiraling darkness as far as the eye could see lay before James Isaac Neutron, certified boy genius extraordinaire, who managed to single handedly force himself into yet another life endangering situation. However, this mishap seemed to stem from an incalculable source this time, according to Jimmy's process of elimination theorizing. All he could do was think though. No part of his burnt body would allow him to move and Jimmy felt his lungs labor as they slowly inhaled and exhaled. He couldn't understand what this dream was doing to him, why he felt pain that seemed so excruciatingly real or where his dream was even taking him. 3

"At least....the flames from before have dissipated...." Jimmy thought to himself, "Those markings they left on me.....what in the world were they? Gosh if only I could calculate the exact circumstances of my current situation, but with a great lack of practically and logical sense, how could I even begin to form a scientific and analytical view? I must face the facts.....It is hopeless to even hope for a way-" Jimmy's complex millings were cut short as an ethereal, and exceedingly eerie glow invaded his sight. Blinking against the increasing glow, Jimmy's irises widened as they beheld the sight of a strange and phantasmal world. Spirits of all shapes and grotesque sizes swam past him, ghosting from one area to the next. Some came from strange greenish vortexes, while others entered into strangely placed doors that seemed to be suspended in mid air. None seemed to take notice or even glance at Jimmy, which seemed odd to the young boy.4

"Holy Heisenburg!! What is this fascinating yet disturbingly strange place?!" Jimmy exclaimed, receiving a couple of puzzled and slightly alarmed looks from a few of the passing spooks. One in particular halted and glared at the empty space before him, his crimson irises attempting to see what he most obviously could not. 5

"Hmph, must be hearing things....Ah what do I care?? The voices are only trying to steal my beloved boxes away from me...." The strange ghost, whom happened to be the disturbed and slightly mental soul of a storage room attendant, turned back to the empty space, inhaled a large amount of ghostly atmosphere and shouted, "BEWARE!!"6

Jimmy blinked in confusion as the odd spirit sped away, laughing all the while.7

"Ok...I don't think I'm in Retroville anymore....or my dream...but how in the heck did I get UWAHH!!" Jimmy yelped as a young pirate youth and his skeletal parrot companion passed directly through him. 8

"Argh, what be passing through us matey?!" The child ghost known as Youngblood yelled, feeling a little offset. 9

"*sigh* Mostly nothing kid. Let's be on our miserable way, shall we?" His parrot replied, slight annoyance lacing his tone. 10

"Hmph, I know there be something there." Youngblood grumbled, but dropped the subject and carried on.11

"Ugh...that...did...NOT.....feel right. How did that boy even-" Again, Jimmy's exasperated thoughts were cut off as a rather large ghostly vortex opened beneath his burnt feet. "EYAAAAHHHHGHHHH!!!" Jimmy screamed as the rift sucked him in like a black hole would engulf an entire planet.12

~Fenton residence, the basement 3:45 p.m. ~13

"Give it up Danny! I am not letting you out of my sight until your shoulder heals entirely!" Jasmine's voice was stern and parental, causing Danny to wish he were still confined to his room. He admitted, maybe talking his parents into letting Sam and Tucker come over for a study session wasn't one of his best ideas, especially concerning his current situation. The arm sling he had to wear wasn't helping either.14

"Jaz I don't NEED to be monitored 24/7 you know. It's not like the time when I sprained my ankle when I was 12." Danny had been attempting to reason with his sister for the past half hour, and the score was Jaz 10, Danny ZIP. 15

"Oh yes you do Danny. Besides, who else would stop you when you run off with your friends instead of studying?" Jaz replied, her tone growing even more parental.16

"Um I won't because I will be studying? C'mon Jaz lay off please! Can't I have at least 20 minutes with my friends without you breathing down my neck??" Danny pleaded. He was actually telling the truth this time. He would be studying, for a little while anyways. 17

"Danny-" An irritating buzzer like noise issued from the front entryway, indicating the arrival of Tucker and Sam. 18

"Jaz please?" Danny's light blue eyes seemed to sparkle with honesty and innocence.19

Jaz just sighed and rubbed her temple. "Ok fine. Half an hour tops."20

"Great! Now if you could just let me-"Danny attempted to inch his way past her, but she thrust out an arm in front of him.21

"Hold it Danny. Half an hour unless you make any sort of sound indicating that you aren't studying." Jasmine's gaze was still stern. 22

Danny groaned. "Fine....I'll be good. No going ghost I promise."23

"Good. Otherwise you can study by yourself in the spectral lock down chamber." Jasmine replied with a smirk. One that Danny didn't know whether to roll his eyes at or cringe because it didn't suit her at all.24

"Ok ok. Just let me pass!" Danny answered, then ducked under her arm and darted towards the door, opened it and let his best friends inside. Tucker and Sam both eyed his arm sling, Sam seeming concerned and slightly amused, Tucker trying to hold back a laugh. 25

"Yo guys. Let's head upstairs. This floor is unfortunately on lock-down." Danny muttered, casting an annoyed look at Jaz, who returned his gaze with another stern glare.26

"Seriously? Man that's l-" Tucker started, but was interrupted by Sam's elbow jamming into his side. "Oww what'd I do Sam?"27

"Think about it Tucker." Was all Sam said as she followed Danny up to his room while Tucker rubbed the area Sam jabbed him and followed behind her. Upon entering Danny's room, the three laid out study materials for a cover up of their actual intention for meeting today; discussing who would target Amityville next.28

"Ok so far Ember has assaulted Amity Park, Vlad made a nuisance of himself the week before, and the Lunch lady nearly made lunchmeat out of me Thursday, so what does that leave?" Danny said, laying out all the key ghouls that were regulars.29

"Um the Box ghost?" Tucker offered.30

"Oh yippy Skippy. Now that would make my day." Danny replied with heavy sarcasm.31

"Well if you ask me, I think things are quieting down a little. I mean, besides from that freakish battle with Ember, I don't think half of them are trying as hard as they could be." Sam commented.32

"Hmm...Could be...but that's what is making me nervous. It's one thing to have ghostly blunders trying to trash the town, but it's something else entirely when they skip out. You know what I'm getting at right?" Danny looked from Sam to Tucker, receiving blank looks in reply. Danny sighed and leaned back on the pillow propped behind his back, then slid to the floor, the pillow pooling out beneath his upper back and head. "I get the feeling like they're just decoys, drawing out fights that I don't need or want, while something much bigger is waiting to eat me whole while I'm looking the other way."33

"Hmm like a Final boss sort of ghost?" Tucker suggested.34

"Yeah. It feels like there's something coming, something that I won't be able to stop from happening or fight against." Danny answered softly, his voice starting to indicate slight fear and a bit of despair. Sam frowned and scooted towards him, then laid a gentle hand on his shoulder. 35

"It will be alright Danny. There really shouldn't be anything to worry about; especially after all you've been through up till now. You've fought against an ancient enemy, a megalomaniac jungle freak, and even yourself. You can handle whatever comes your way. I know you can." Sam encouraged him, smiling warmly.36

Danny looked into her eyes, and then smiled as well. "Thanks Sam. You're probably right." Danny stood to his feet. "Whatever happens, no matter how bad it gets, we'll get through it."37

Tucker and Sam smiled at their beloved friend, glad that he was in higher spirits now.38

"So...should we at least study a bit now or..." Tucker cut Sam off by pulling out a 2 player videogame. "Knock off some Zombies in Meat Meltdown III?"39

"No way! Meat Meltdown III?! I thought it wasn't due out for at least another couple of weeks!" Danny exclaimed, his eagerness addicting.40

"Way. You forget Danny, I have connections."Tucker said with a smug grin.41

"Dude just load it in my Game station already!" Danny cut him off, and then was forced to sit before he and Tucker could even stand. 42

"Um guys, aren't you both forgetting something? Like Danny on lock down maybe??" Sam reminded both of them. Both the boys sighed, nearly making identical expressions of disappointment. "Alright, tell you what. We study for about half an hour, then it's zombie slice and dice free- for- all time."43

"Deal." Tucker and Danny said in unison, and then hit the books.44

Sam did keep her word and about 25 minutes later, the three were having a blast nuking zombies and slicing through them like butter with all sorts of crazy weapons. Right in the middle of slicing a ghoulish zombie right down the middle, a blue mist vapored out of Danny's mouth, the tell tale sign of a spectral goon nearby.45

"Darn it!! Guys shut it down!" Danny called to them as he darted into his closet and transformed into his alternate half ghost persona, Danny Phantom. Phasing through the door, he grabbed hold of Sam and Tucker as he passed and passed them through the walls as he traveled to the basement, already aware of the spooks who decided to show their ugly mugs. Upon arrival, Danny set his companions down, and then plummeted to the ground as he was pinned by a sickening green root like tendril. 46

"Oh great! These guys are back and the best part, they've fused together! Twice the fun, double the ugly!" Danny easily broke through the embryonic covering of the tendril and began blasting the two headed spectral octopus with a barrage of green ghostly energy bolts. 47

"Woot!! Show em who's boss Danny!!" Tucker cheered, while Sam looked around, feeling as if something was different. Then she spotted him.....Her eyes widened at the small transparent child whom was entrapped beneath one of the pulsating plasmatic welts on the right side of the monster. "DANNY!! Get that shell thing open!! Quick!!" She yelled, her eyes darting from Danny to the boy.48

"Sam I'm kinda busy h-" "JUST DO IT!!" Sam nearly screamed her face paling with the effort of remaining levelheaded.49

Danny sped about, reaching the backside of the ghost, then unleashed his bolts at rapid fire, one of them slicing through the skin covering the kid Sam had found. Sam knelt down next to the kid and looked him over. His skin looked as if he had been lying on the surface of the sun for a couple of seconds and engraved on his flesh, unmarred unlike the rest of his body were alien designs that pulsated a ghostly blue and green. 50

The creature shrieked in its grotesque tongue then attempted to swallow Danny whole. Predicting such a simple move, Danny placed his left hand on the ghost's head, ice forming from his palm. The ice quickly spread, freezing the monster solid. His next move shattered the beast, as he unleashed a strong surge of ghostly energy from his right palm. The pieces rained down around them, then vanished into thin air, being naturally drawn back into the Ghost Zone.51

"So Sam, what the heck were you yelling for?" Danny questioned, wiping access ghost slime from his front and hands. 52

"Um well apparently that ghost had brought a snack and forgot about it." Sam answered him, indicating the young boy lying in a pool of ectoplasm.53

"Woah...He came with that thing?" Tucker shouted, Sam slapping a hand over his mouth. 54

"Shut it Tucker! We might wake him and the last thing Danny needs is some kid blowing his cover ok?"Sam hissed, keeping her hand tightly covering Tucker's pie hole.55

Danny looked at the kid while his friends bickered, his eyes observing him intently. The markings the kid had....why did they seem so familiar to him? The boy's eyelids twitched as he stirred, his body pulsating with light as he did so. Everyone within the vicinity gaped as the boy's form solidified, growing into one of a 15 year old. When his body hit the ground with a dull thud, he opened his eyes completely and gazed with a mixture of fright and wonderment, all the while, his strange markings pulsating, then slowly fading away, as if they were never even there.56
