Who would do such a thing- "lead God around by the nose?" Perhaps (compared similarly) it's like God saying (in Malachi e:8) "Will a man rob God?" Though most would never consciously rob God, and "yet we all have." Consequently, within our "instant society" we know nothing about waiting, much less waiting on God. We want what we want and when we want it "now (Dear God), if you please!" 1
So perhaps the question should be "who is God to us?" How many of our childish ways limit our receiving more? Because the Holy Spirit, God's representative, is such a gentleman. Honestly, though, if anyone else had told me that I was trying to lead God around by the nose (besides the Holy Spirit) "(well) I might-of just punched them in the nose (he-he)." Maybe not, however, the point is we can have an uncalled-for reaction "against the shocking truth" at times. And really, whether we are trying to tell God what to do, lead him in our direction, or simply run ahead and expect Him to follow, "our actions really do speak LOUDER THAN WORDS" after all. We contradict God, and his word, often, and don't even realize it "through our actions." One example being: years ago I told God that I could no longer love a certain person. "well, He said (by the Holy Spirit), I must be a liar then." "What (I retorted)! I'm sorry God I didn't know that I called you a liar-." "(He continued) I thought- I said that my yoke is easy and my burden is light, and you can do all thing through Me- ((Matthew 11:30; Philippians 4:13)." Strange that we can contradict God, and His Word, by our actions and not even know it; but the bible says that our heart (or motives) are even known to us without His Spirit and Word revealing them. 2
What a loving and merciful Father to love us and accept us with all our human frailties. No wonder the scriptures compare us to sheep, which definitely need a leader (or shepherd). God has given his people many great leaders like Paul who said: "follow me as I follow Christ." And yet I've seen God, The Holy Ghost, moving on a person and lo and behold some intrusive (self-appointed) minister or person in the church quickly moves to lay hands on that person "in order to help God out (I suppose)!" 3
I was raised in Church, yet like Moses I was also taught in Egypt, so there are many churchy things that God has had to get me to "unlearn." And I suppose, being related to many of the royal "greats," it's natural for me to want to tell God what to do; although I don't see myself as a bossy person, I definitely know how to take charge "naturally." But this is no excuse for me to "think I know more than God, expect Him to follow my lead, or quickly do what I think He's supposed to do when I want Him to do it" either.4
So the next time you think that you haven't a controlling nature in your body, perhaps think of how God's Spirit related to me that "He doesn't need us to tell Him what to do." God wants trusting, obediant, children who'll listen and follow.5
