Kyle Cody and the Keeper of the Frozen Northlands [chapter 1]

I am Kyle Jefferson Cody, an average fourteen year old boy. The weird thing about me though is that I wasn’t born on earth. Although I am human and my mother and father were earthlings, I was born on mars. I live in the thirty-fifth century, a century of space travel.
I was off to the spaceport to get on the shuttle to planet Arctavius in the Polaris solar system. I would be the first to step on the planet… well one of the first because you see that this is the first flight there.
My mom came to say her good bye to me. My dad was sick in the hospital so he couldn’t come to say bye.
“Bye Kyle, I’ll miss you!” my mom waved as I entered the ship.
I walked toward my empty seat, in the back of the craft. I sat down slowly, and buckled my belt. This was going to be the Human race’s farthest travel into space. I put my head down on the armrest and closed my eyes…1

It has been a day and a half. I woke up from the long nap. I looked out the window to see the recognisable shape of Pluto. From how close we were we could see some of our huge colonies down there. I looked at the small television on the back of the seat in front of me. We picked up Pluto’s television. Nothing seemed to be on at all. Then I wondered if my cell phone could reach earth from here. I gave it a try. I got the faintest response from my mom’s cell phone. It sounded like a flurry. A cold one. I swear I could feel the coldness sweep from my phone. After that I heard a quiet distant scream from my cell phone.
“Mom?!? You okay?” I yelled out in concern.
No answer. I asked again, and got the response from a ghastly voice, “Put on your floatation device…”
That crept me out… a lot.
“Who is this?!? What did you do with my mother!?” I yelled at the man.
“That is not a concern right now… Put of your floatation device…” The voice answered.
“Not until you tell”- “Do it!” The voice changed from ghastly to very angry.
“Okay. Okay. I will do it,” I responded, while putting on my floatation device.
The phone hanged up quickly. I was worried about my mother, what could have happened to her?2

It has been 2 more days, I was bored, and we had no television signals. I looked out of the window, and I saw a large, Whitish blue planet.
The pilot soon announced, “We are almost at our destination, I repeat. We are almost at our destination.”
In a few seconds we felt a huge lurch, followed by a ear pounding creak
Foom! Foom foom foom! Bolts shot out of the sides of the rocket, 3 of the bolts bashed into the face of a business man. He violently fell down, dead.
The silence turned into a jumble of screams. Air left the holes in the rocket, and it began to compress. The rocket violently hurled down toward the icy world of Arctavius down below.
I heard my phone ring, I answered it, and the ghastly voice said, “Get under the seat in front of you, put your blanket between you and the seat…”
“Is this some sort of trick?!?” I screamed.
“No…” The voice replied.
Was I going to die? Was I going to live? Am I going to see my family again? Or am I doomed to live here for the rest of my life. The ship grew closer and closer… I closed my eyes about to find out.
