Waiting for Life to Begin

I know I’m a child. I know I am much too naive. And I understand what they tell me. 1

“Wait, Wait,” They say, “for this is not a time of action. It is meant for reflection and thought.”2

But I’ve done that! I’ve made up my mind and my destiny. I’ve argued my points and persuaded until all those around me believe. I’ve left those who did not. I’m ready and I want to begin. 3

“Wait, wait” they say. 4

I know why. Life cannot start suddenly. It is not a light switch. It is not a fire. You must ease into it slowly, like a hot bath or the coming of spring. I know this. I know I must wait. But that doesn’t make waiting any easier.5
