TUBE: My New Story IDEA

(I hope this gets your inspiration flowing, but please do not copy my characters or ideas as I plan on turning this into a book series.)1

PROLOGUE:3

They had been planning the conference for over three month. Sheila and her mother, Charlotte, were to lead the first annual international conference on the possible near-death of the sun. Only this time it was more than just a meeting on the effects of this luminous red mass of energy on the way to its torturous end.4

They were facing the near end of human life altogether, Extinction. For there had been wide-spread documentation leading to evidence of a much greater shift then the global dimming caused by a dying sun. Something had crashed right into the sun.5

Charlotte had the taxi waiting outside their apartment complex in Boston. Charlotte was more nervous than her daughter, she kept dabbing her lips and re-applying her glossy lipstick, her hair was tied back in a bun and her eyes shown bright against the rest of her face—which was masked by tan foundation. Sheila was ready in her black dress pants and white button down shirt. Her anticipation had been building up to this night. It would be a chance to demonstrate her ability to convey science to her mother and the rest of the world.6

Sheila had kept her son, Daniel, over at her friend’s house for the day and night of the conference. Daniel, her baby son who could barely walk or talk, had cried all morning until Ericka had put him into the comfortable crib with his happy stuffed cartoon animals.7

It had been nearly five pm (they were running short on time) when the cab pulled out of the lot. Charlotte took the rear of the cab with all of her paperwork to carry, and to save space Sheila sat up front. It was an hour’s worth of driving before they made it to the conference hall in a room of what had looked like a large institution of some sort.8

The mother and daughter were just about to close the cab doors when suddenly Charlotte got a phone call. Charlotte held the cell close to her ear as an expression of terror overcame her face. Sheila looked at her mom and asked her what was wrong. Charlotte said, “Oh dear. You’re going to have to take the cab back. I can’t miss this conference.”9

“What is happened mom?” Sheila asked her mother in a frantic voice.10

“Ericka says that your Daniel has gone missing.”11

"WHAT?" Sheila cried out, "What do you mean he has gone missing?"12

It was as if all the frustrations and expectations of the conference had evaporated into thin air. Sheila climbed into the back of the cab without a sideways glance and told the driver to hurry up and take her back home. The cab sped out of there in no time. 13

It took her a few hurried glances to realize that the cab driver was dressed up—in a police uniform. Sheila wondered if her mom had been assigned this cab for transportation to the conference. It wasn’t really like a regular cab- for instance it was completely black, not white or yellow. It didn’t even have the word taxi written on it. 14

Sheila had no time to waste. “Officer, my son may be in danger. Will you help me find him? Please?”15

“Now please calm down miss. If you don’t find your son within the next few hours you should call the police and they’ll be on it.”16

“What if it’s too late?”17

PLOTLINES: Daniel was kidnapped and taken to a place known as 'THE BASE' where military scientists experiment on babies and children in order to turn them into engineers of the future.18
