Casting one last glance at the crumpled heap on the ground, Liz climbed back into the car. She shook her head and tried not to smile, killing, even killing a man as wicked as that, should be no laughing matter. "Impressive," she said to Kit appreciatively. "You're really fast. I'm glad you're on my side."1
From the look on the vampire's face, the man's rogue blood must have held some awful memories indeed. Beth could imagine many scenes like this one, where the girls did not have the power to escape, as they had. It sent a shiver of rage down her spine. How could humans be so thoughtless?2
"Is it awful to say that I'm hungry after all of that?" Kit cracked a grin that showed her fangs, still out from her encounter. She shook her head. "Then you don't mind if we cruise by Burger King, do you?" The vampire shook her head again.3
A few minutes later, they were in the drive-thru lane of the fast-food chain. Beth ordered a Whopper and an order of cheesy-tots, and a diet coke. The boy on the radio sounded bored. "Your total is six forty-eight," he sighed, as Beth turned the hot-rod around the corner.4
"Poor boy," Kit smiled wickedly. "He sounds like he needs some entertainment." Beth's eyes flashed gold and she smiled as well. She turned to look at Kit, and both girls said the same thing at once.5
"Lets play with him a bit."6
The glass of the Burger King shook as the Chevelle cruised up to the pay-window. The boy leaned out lazily and held out his hand, only to freeze, his eyes growing wide. Beth's skirt was dangerously high, showing six inches of thigh between her knee socks and the hemline. Kit had one leg propped up on the dashboard, the other hanging out the window, her savage heels tapping to the beat of the AC/DC tune filtering out of the stereo.7
"Six..um.. six forty-eight," the teenager stuttered, his cheeks growing red. Beth smiled. His scent reeked of sex, it was clear what was on his mind.8
"Sure, sugar," she nodded, reaching into her bra and pulling out a ten dollar bill. Even without looking, she knew Kit was grinning like a fiend. Liz handed the money to the boy, who took the warm cash and stared at it before putting it in the register.9
"Keep the change, darling," Kit simpered, leaning over to get a better look at the poor kid.10
"T-thanks, girls. I mean ladies." He handed out Liz's drink and a straw, then passed out the bag of food. "C...come back again," he squeaked, unable to pry his eyes from Kit's black garter.11
"We will," Kit smiled. Beth stuck the straw into her cup and sipped slowly.12
"Yummy," she sighed, glancing at the boy out of the corner of her eye. "Don't work too hard, sweetie," she waved, putting the car in gear and revving the engine before pulling out of the line. As the car sped out of the parking lot, the girls watched out the rear-view mirror. The boy was half-hanging out the window, waving as the not-rod pulled onto the street. Both girls looked at each other before bursting out laughing.
