Reality TV
In this episode I will talking about the three main reality TV shows broadcast in the UK (which are ironicly all on at the same time):
- Strictly Come Dancing
- The X factor
- Big Brother
2
If you dont know what any of these are, use wikipiedia!
Now then i'll start in reverse order, with Big Brother. Essentially they take some people, lock them in house with a CCTV system for a month (sounds rather boring when you put it like that). While orriginaly this was an intresting phscological experiment, the addition of prise money, and the show's phscologists abilty to perposely chose people who will break down in the house, turned this into yet another mainstream entertainment show.

Next i'll talk about the x factor, basicly watching a lot of people who cant sing, but think they can. You could say this offers opportunites to people who want to get into the music industry, but most of the time they release one CD and fade back into obscurity. Anyway if they had any real talent, would they honestly need help? it dosent cost anything to go to an audition, does it? Again this progam suffered the sin of mainstream entertainment, they telivsed the auditions this year, and perposefully showed the crap ones.4
And finally; Strictly Come dancing, this is mainly here because my mum whatches it religously, and i'll admit it, I watched the first 2 sereies. Also this shows the final problem of reality TV: The phone vote. While this allows the audicence to get more involved with surporting their favorites, it removes the whole ideda of a talent show, you might as well just have a show where people vote on who's their favorite celeb. As people win depending on their popularity, not their talet, althought this year they allowed the judges to chose which of the bottom 2 couples to eliminate.5
Anyway, that concludes my complete shredding of the Reality TV genre, please direct any complaints to: idontgiveashit@yahoo.co.uk6
See you next week!7

Keep on going.

2 old applause
