CHAPTER ONE: PILOT 3

Staring out of the window at the dark cloudy sky a pair of sad-tired pale grey eyes watched the scenery blankly. The teachers lecture was being blacked out as he saw a car drive into the school’s parking lot. It was a shiny red 67 impala, his eyes lit up at the sight of it. He averted his gaze when he felt someone poke him in the ribs with a metal ruler.4

“Kaleb poke me one more time and die.” He growled as his grey eyes met dark blue. The owner of the dark blue eyes laughed as he sat next to the irate white haired boy.5

“Aw but Jake, your dad told me to make sure you don’t spend too much time drooling over cars.” Said Kaleb grinning as he swung his long blue hair over his shoulder. By then student were starting to arrive in the classroom, their talking stopping abruptly as they spotted the two boys, grinning, one glaring plus the teacher himself. A million thoughts went through Jakes mind then he opted to slam his head against the desk.6

“Hearing voices again hey.” Kaleb chuckled.7

“Screw you.” Jake growled in reply.8

Meanwhile the owner of the red impala made his way up the concrete stairs into the school slowly making his way to the principles office, his emerald green eyes scanned the hallway boredly. He then noticed a group of students standing midway in a classroom. The boy was curious to what was keeping them from entering the classroom when a hand grabbed his arm.9

“Mr Nomad, you are late for our appointment.” Said a harsh voice behind him and he turned to see the red faced principle glaring at him. Thin white hair hung limply around his face as he proceeded to drag the irate teen behind him. When they reached his office he slammed the door behind him and released the teen’s arm.10

“That has to be illegal.” He muttered, rubbing his arm as he sat down, none too gently. The principle glared at him as he sat behind the desk.11

“Now, I’m going to be straight with you Mr. Nomad-12

“Jared.” Said the boy suddenly, grinning.13

“What?”14

“My name is Jared. Mr. Nomad makes me feel old.” said Jared as he leaned back in his chair lazily. The principle’s face grew steadily redder as he continued.15

“Mr. Nomad, I have just about had enough of you and your misbehaving in this school so I am going to give you one last warning. Get even one toe out of line, you are expelled. Got it?” said Mr. Monou, his face bright red as he spoke. Jared grinned easily at him.16

“Sure, good behaviour. Can I go now? I sorta have to get to class Mr. Monou.” said Jared lazily. Mr. Monou growled from the back of his throat before answering.17

“Fine, but I except you to attend detention at second lunch for the next two weeks, got it?” he growled. Jared nodded before practically running out the door. Mr. Monou sighed as the quiet was restored to his office.18

“That boy will be the death of me.” He muttered as he returned to his paperwork.19

“That was close.” muttered Jared as he approached his classroom once more. Everyone was inside now so the halls were quiet as he passed rows of lockers and closed classroom doors, his green eyes looking for any signs of life. Upon finding none he let his smile slip as he sighed. Living like this was harder than he expected and it started to wear down on him. Sighing again he leaned against the closest locker and closed his eyes.20

“That bad, huh?” said a voice and Jared practically jumped out of his skin. Jerking his eyes open, he swung his head around to come face to face with a boy with blue eyes. Jared blinked several times as the boy chuckled.21

“Sorry didn’t mean to startle you. Name’s Kaleb. Me and my…cousin are new here.” said Kaleb, laughter still in his voice.22

“Uh…Hi Kaleb, I’m Jared, I’m the ex new kid” said Jared. Kaleb chuckled, his dark blue eyes shining with amusement.23

“Nice to meet you Jared, ex new kid” said Kaleb grinning. He contemplated something for a few moments, eye Jared thoughtfully.24

“Are you the guy with the red 67’ Impala?” he asked suddenly and Jared blinked at the sudden and seemingly random question.25

“Uh, yeah, what’s it to you?” he asked and Kaleb clapped his hands in delight. He then grabbed Jared’s arm and dragged him behind him.26

“You gotta meet Jake!” he said, his voice filled with excitement as Jared tried to pry his wrist out of Kaleb’s deceptively strong grip. Upon failing, he tried for a different option 27

“What are you doing? Where are you taking me?” demanded Jared as he tried to tug his wrist out again. He had to get to class or Mr Monou was going to chew him up. He continued to tug his arm to no avail. The grip was too strong and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break it. Kaleb didn’t answer until he had proceeded to drag Jared into an empty classroom near the back of the school. These rooms were barely being used anymore and this particular classroom looked like it hadn’t been used in awhile. Dust lay thick on everything and the desks were all crammed against the far wall. Upon hearing the door shut with a click, Jared whirled to face Kaleb, his eyes blazing.28

“What are we doing here?” he growled, his green eyes livid. Kaleb grinned, his face carefree as he brushed a strand of blue hair behind his ear.29

“I thought it looked like you need a break!” said Kaleb, seemingly oblivious to Jared’s anger.30

“You thought- You barely know me!-“31

“What the hell Kaleb I thought you were going to get a drink not bring someone back” growled a voice from behind him and Jared turned to find the source of the voice. His eyes scanned the room when he spotted a boy sitting by the window for the first time. Everything about him was pale and cold. Like the icy glare that Jared was receiving right now. A shiver ran down his spine as grey eyes looked him up and down. There was a long silence before anyone spoke.32

“Aw but Jake, I like him!” said Kaleb grinning as he grabbed on to Jared’s arms startling the poor boy. Jake let off a low growl, almost a sort of rumbling noise as Kaleb’s smile faded slightly.33

“Let him go Kaleb. How many times do I have to tell you not to kidnap random people?” said Jake, narrowing his eyes before turning to stare out the window. Kaleb looked disappointed as he let go of Jared’s arms, who looked at Jake once more before lunging for the door. Something about the white-haired boy just creeped him out. After the door slammed shut, Kaleb let out a huge sigh as he slowly slid down the wall until he was sitting on the floor.34

“And here I thought you would actually get along with him. Honestly Jake, do you really have to scare everyone away?” said the blue-haired boy, glaring at the other, who ignored him stolidly.35

“That boy…his aura was pure” muttered Jake to himself as he watched the sun be hidden by the clouds once more.36

“Who were those guys?” muttered Jared angrily to himself as his pen scribbled furiously across the page. The occasional error scribbled out furiously. It was the last lesson of the day and Jared was in Math his most hated lesson. All day he had been distracted by thoughts of those two strange boys and he was lucky enough that the teachers weren’t paying attention to him. Which was good, in a way…Turning the page over, he stared at the clean whiteness and wondered once again, what that boy Jake’s problem was…Dammit he was doing it again! Growling again in frustration, he threw his pen and rested his head in his hands tiredly. This was so boring! Can they at least make this a little more interesting?38

Just then the bell rang and there was suddenly a furry of movement as everyone rushed for the door. Jared however hung back, packing his things with deliberate slowness. He wasn’t lagging because he didn’t want to see them, it's that he didn’t want to drive in an overly crowded parking lot. At least that’s what he kept telling himself. Eventually, he did have to leave and he reluctantly walked out the front doors. There were only two cars left in the parking lot. An idling dark grey Ford Fiesta and his own red ’67 Impala. And standing in front of his car was one of the very people he was trying to avoid.39

“Dammit!” he growled to himself, before clutching his bag tighter. Okay, just act cool. Yeah, easier said then done. Trying to look indifferent, he strolled down to his car and fished out his keys. As he fumbled for the right key, the other person spoke40

“Nice ride. Custom paint job, original trims…resent restoration. Did you do it?” asked Jake, no trace of the earlier hostility in his voice, only curiosity. Jared raised a fiery eyebrow at the pale boy, keys and bag forgotten in his hands.41

“Yeah I did it over the summer. It was a wreck when I bought it. What of it?” asked Jared narrowing his eyes slightly. Jake met his eyes and smirked slightly.42

“No reason” he said, a strange look appearing on his face as the horn was honked loudly from the Ford.43

“Jake hurry your ass up or I’m leaving with out you!” yelled a voice which Jared identified as Kaleb. Jake glanced once more at the car before turning and walking away without a word. Jared watched blankly as Jake got into the car and sped away.44

“What the hell?”45

///////////////////////////////////////////////////46

“Come on man, what are you doing? Can’t this thing go any faster?”47

The small car cruised across the country side as the sunlight cast an orange glow over everything, Jake growled 48
