Sure, why not?

I believe that marijuana should be legalized for the simple fact that it is a lot less dangerous then alcohol. Yes, marijuana can be harmful but only if you abuse its use. 1

I'm not quite sure of any percentages, but alcohol causes tons of deaths a year. Can you tell me the last time you heard of a death being directly caused by the use of marijuana? Alcohol causes long term health problems such as liver disease, while as far as we know marijuana doesn't have any long term effects on the body.2

This is something that me and my friends like to point out. Say that you put two hundred people in one room with nothing but alcohol, and two hundred people in another room with a bunch of pot. Come back two hours later and the room full of alcohol would be in total chaos, but in the second room everyone would be sitting in circles laughing and having a good old time. While this experiment has never really been tested, and is therefore mere speculation, its just a funny little saying to compare the effects of both alcohol and marijuana. 3

I must say that if marijuana were legalized It would obviously need to be restricted just as alcohol is. Age restrictions and perhaps driving restrictions as well. While I say that marijuana isn't really harmful, I do agree that it can be abused, and therefore it isn't for everyone. 4

I'm sure if I researched a little longer I could give a better reason on why marijuana should be legalized but for now all I have to say is that if something that is as destructiv e as alcohol is legal then marijuana should be as well. It is a lot less harmful to the user, and cannot be linked to as many deaths or health problems. 5
