A Better Life Than I Expected

I am a white cat, now bruised on my right eye. Now I am a red and brown cat, not loved any more. I limp around the crowded streets, just barely able to walk. I need somewhere to stay overnight but, no human would ever want to keep a cat that looks like me.1

I stray mindlessly to a nearby apartment complex and travel to the first building that I see. I now sit in front of the door, trying to keep warm. I find it impossible.2

I see headlights coming towards me; I try to flee, but my hurt paws would not take me anywhere. And so I sat, watching the car come to me. It stops.3

Sitting here confused, I now watch as a tall man gets out of the car and walks to the other side. He opens the door and pulls out a small girl with curly brown hair. The girl hugs him.4

I am jealous.5

The man closes the door and sets the girl down next to him while he locks the car using some device called ‘a key’. The little girl turns and looks at me. She gasps; I flinch.6

She speaks to the man in the human’s language. He faces me and I face away from him, exposing my hurt face on accident.7

I hear him gasp and see him walk over to me. I want to run, but I can’t move, it’s almost like I am paralyzed. He holds my ugly face in his warm hands. I try to purr, but all that came from my dry throat was a scratchy rumble. 8

The girl comes and stands behind him. I try to focus on her instead of the man. I now feel hands around my waist, picking me up. It doesn’t feel good. I try to meow, but only a tiny squeak came out. I am defenseless. 9

I am being carried into the apartment and set down on a cold, flat surface near a sink. I shiver. 10

The man stares into my punctured blue eyes and shakes his head back and forth. I am now being picked up and placed into the large sink. 11

Water starts to pour out of something that connects to the back of the sink. It feels warm and wet. I try to close my eyes and relax.12

The man’s hands caress my fur and rub gently against my bruised face. In a way, it feels good. He hits a part of my eye that feels really uncomfortable. Another tiny squeak comes from the back of my sore throat.13

The water stops pouring out of the long tube-like thing and I feel a cozy cloth around me. I am pulled out of the sink and set on the floor. My tail twitches a bit. The little girl starts to pet my head. The man comes and strokes my back.14

I think I now have somewhere to live and someone to love me.15

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is.

Awwww, this poor kitty. I'm so glad he got a home. I really enjoyed this. It touched me, and there aren't a lot of stories that do that.

Hmmm... I get your message, but I don't really like the way you portrayed it though... It wasn't a good style of writing but it was decent.

    Hey.

    Firstly thanks for entering.
This is such an amazing piece, i'm sat in tears of saness or happiness i don't know. Sadness that an animal could get into such a condition, but happy that it found a home in the end. I love that you did it from the cats point of view, it allowed the emotion to pour out and really get your message against animal cruelty, which i've always been 100% behind.

Thanks once again for entering such a touching piece, best of luck in all contests.

    Sweet Story

Good imagination. Like how you told the story from the cat's perspective.
Para 7 was a bit contradictory, facing away & exposing

I almost started to cry and i know that it isn't like a true story (wait a minute it isn't true is it? because it would break my heart if it was.) but I can almost imagine what the cat has been through. People need to start making a difference in the world whether it's with people or animals. Your right about animal cruelty, it has to be stopped because there are people in this world right now abusing a poor animal and THEY DO NOT DESERVE IT. Think about Puppy mills and how if the dogs have 1 more whisker than the rest of the litter or if its toenails aren't white they'll get killed for that simple little flaw. Think of it as in the human being in the place of that dog and what it would feel like to us. I love the point your making and I know that this comment is getting kind of long but I needed to say this because what better people to change the world than the people our selves.

I'm glad that you're one of the many people who care and love for animals, instead of getting all angry at them for simple flaws. I totally agree with you on that. Plus, there's a link in my AN that you can go to and help save animals' lives. I hope you decide to help as well!

The reason I wrote this story was because I had just finnished watching a comercial on it — I cried through the entire thing! So, I didn't even finish watching the comercial, but I got the link for their website and I wrote a story about it.
