Drip, Drip, Drip

It was a cold night on October 21. Ms.Perkins was finishing up her sewing, and was putting away her threads and needle. Her dog, Jackie, was blind and deaf. She was lying at the feet of Ms.Perkins. Wind rustled outside of her old cottage out in the country. Thunder had started up, and the forecast on the old t.v had said maybe some lightning. Ms.Perkins turned her t.v and lamp off, went to her room, and got dressed into her night gown. She laid down in her bed and waited for Jackie. Jackie came in a moment later, crawled under her bed, and began to gently lick at the feet of Ms.Perkins. This always helped the old woman fall asleep, and soon enough she was out.1

'CRACK'2

Ms.Perkins sat up in bed, outside her window there was a mighty storm. She could still feel Jackie licking her feet. She turned to her bedside table and turned the radio on. A crackly voice was announcing some news.3

'This just in, Dale Manjert has escaped from a local Mental Institute, be aware for him, he stands at 5'8 and weighs about 145. He is bald and pale. If you see any signs of him then call your local authorities immediatly.'4

Ms.Perkins turned the radio off, a little nervous. The institute was only 4 miles away from her little cottage. She laid back down in bed. I'm sure he'll be found soon, she thought to herself. She was about to drift off into her sleep again but was cut off by the sound of dripping.5

Drip, drip, drip.6

It was coming from the bathroom.7

Drip, drip, drip.8

It must be the faucet, she thought, it will go away soon.9

Drip, drip, drip.10

Okay, maybe I forgot to wipe the water off my shower head, she pondered.11

Drip, drip, drip.12

At this moment the old woman was fed up. She hobbled up out of bed and tip-toed her way to the bathroom. She turned the light on and squinted her eyes, letting them adjust to the light. She stared at the sink faucet, no dripping. 13

"Ah, must be the shower." She said to herself.14

She walked over to the shower, and pulled the curtain open. But, it was not the shower head, exactly. On the shower head was the head of her dog, Jackie. Blood was dripping down, onto the shower's floor. 15

Ms.Perkins let out a horrified scream and stumbled backwards. She was on her way to the living room for the phone when she realized something.16

Wait a minute, she thought. If..if my dog is dead..then who was licking my..feet.17

Ms.Perkins slowly made her way back to the room, she got to her bed. She bent down on her aching old knees and lifted up the bed's covers that were hanging over the edge. Laying there, under the bed was Dale Manjert. He gave the woman a huge grin, showing every one of his teeth, covered in blood.

Author notes

I remember my dad telling me a story similar to this a long time ago. I just made it my own. Hope you enjoyed!

O.o wooah, mkay, very different ending. This really goes well, though, with this being a contest in the name of Halloween and stuff, even though most of my entries aren't. I liked the writing and such, good work in all. My only problem, is that I keep thinking I've heard this before, well, or something like the plot, maybe different characters and such though...idk, anyways, good read.

I've heard this a few times but instead of an old lady and mental guy it involved a little boy and a serial killer. I really like this version though, haha as I read this my dog walked into my room and started licking my hand and it was extremely freaky
Haha anyway the way you told it was really suspenseful, the way it ended was really good too.

As soon as I began reading about Ms. Perkins getting into bed and the dog licking her feet, I knew exactly where it was going. This urban legend has always freaked me out for some weird reason- it's been told different ways (a man escaping a mental instution, a stalker ex-boyfriend/husband, some weird obsessed stalker/neighbor, etc.) but it's always the dog, the 'drip, drip, drip' and the licking that just gives me the heebie-jeebies

You did a good job writing this, and your own added twist at the end left it wide open along with a very creepy visual Good work and thanks for entering
