Do I Hear a Bet Coming On? 1

“Why, are guys such jerks?” Alice mumbled to herself as she looked behind us to Jeremy and Hannah, who were now tagging close behind. We all had the next class together.2

“I don’t think all of them are jerks. Just the self righteous Jeremy’s of the world.” I replied as we turned the corner in the hall. I felt the impact of our collision as I tumbled backwards and my books hit the ground. I was slightly dazed as I looked down as they hit the floor. 3

“Watch it ass clown!” I heard Jeremy’s snap. 4

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you. Are you all right, Keera?” The voice completely ignored Jeremy’s verbal insult and I looked up and smiled. 5

“Yeah, Blake, I’m fine.” He bent down to pick up my books and I followed to help. 6

Blake Avery was the schools designated ‘loner’. He had no friends, within the school, at least and he hardly talked to anyone. We had a few classes together: English and gym. I never spoke a word to him in gym class, but on occasion we would speak in English. We sat next to each other in that class. 7

“Here” He stated as he handed me my books and quickly rushed off down the hall. 8

“He’s such a freak!” Hannah stated with a laugh. I shrugged at her slightly. 9

“I think he’s nice.” I stated, “Not like a lot of the boys around here.” 10

“Meaning?” Jeremy offered. 11

“Meaning, I don’t have to worry about rather he’s undressing me with his eyes every time I ask him a question.” I replied. This made him laugh. 12

“Are you serious?” Jeremy began as we all entered our history class. “I bet if you showed the least bit interest in him, he’d cream his pants over you in a second.” 13

“Do you have to be so vulgar all the time, you pig!” Alice exclaimed. Jeremy laughed lightly. 14

“I think you’re wrong. Blake is truly the only respectable guy left in this world.” I stated as I opened my book to the pages we were supposed to read before school started again. Needless to say, I never got around to it.15

“I bet you he’s not…” Jeremy chimed. I looked over at him. 16

A bet? I’m sure he didn’t mean it literally, but if there was a chance I could make Jeremy look like an ass, I would gladly do it. 17

“Ok. I’ll bite.” I stated slightly. Alice gave me a look. She knew nothing good could come from a bet with Jeremy. But I didn’t really care at the moment. Jeremy gave me a crooked smile. 18

“All right, Miss Popular, if Blake is such a noble man, I want you to try your hardest to get him to sleep with you. If he’s this great guy you claim him to be, then he’ll refuse. You have until...” He paused, and then smiled slightly at me. 19

If he says prom, I’ll kill him.20

“Until my end of the year party.” 21

“But that’s two months away!” I complained. “Anyone would give in after that long of a time. Just for pity reason!” 22

“Not if he’s the guy you say he is.” 23

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not some kind of whore. I wouldn’t normally try to get a guy to sleep with me. But my hate for Jeremy seemed to be over taking my sense of typical moral understanding. 24

“Fine. So what if he doesn’t?” 25

“Then I’ll never bother you about dating me, ever again. But if he does, from that night on until grad, you’re mine.” He’s smirk was horrifying in all its confidence. And the possibility that I was completely wrong about Blake made the situation that much more terrifying. The last thing I wanted was to be with Jeremy. And all I had to do, to avoid it, was tell him no deal. To detest the entire idea all together. 26

But on the other hand, if Blake was the guy I thought him to be, then I would never have to hear from Jeremy again and that alone made it a scam that I couldn’t refuse. I looked up at Alice and she shook her head no. I knew she didn’t want me to do it. 27

“Nothing good can come from this.” She stated softly. I looked over at Hannah who wasn’t even paying attention, but staring intently at Jeremy. So much for her advice on the subject. I sighed deeply. I knew Alice was right… but it was still not enough to make the cons greater than the pros. 28

“All right. You have a bet.” 29

“Sweet!” He slammed his hand into his desk. I rolled my eyes at him. 30

Jeremy was so sure that Blake was just like every other guy in the world, a sucker for a pretty face. And now, I had to spend then next two months trying to prove him wrong, or the next four months after that were going to be complete hell for me. I sighed and spoke softly to myself.31

“Welcome back to high school, Keera!”32

Cute, I like it. Nice bet, and my money's on Blake, i hope he pulls through. Good chapter. Only thing I got paragrah 12 I think you want to say "whether" rather than "rather" as in "about whether he's undressing me.."
    But otherwise great.
