Sinister House

Friday nights were always the most prolific. For the events that unfolded inside the sky-blue weather board house on High Street. In the small country town Alice's mother was raised in.1

It started with the television. The sound could be heard throughout the echoing house,at random moments during the night, but it was always Alice who had to face her inner demons to switch it off. Her efforts were always useless, as her mother tried to cover the truth, for the sake of protecting her superstitious sister.2

Both women were perceptive to the supernatural, and the unknown. Unlike Alice, her mother did her best to keep her talents under wrap. The lies, Alice knew were told to protect their fears.3

Alice found it hard to sleep in the house. The house had always been naturally cold, and with only one lagging gas heater to surround the entire house, she often found herself in the study; with the lounge room door open, huddled in blankets, layer upon layer of clothing, the only thing keeping her warm. Trying desperately to rid herself of the frosted sensations that she could feel even underneath the fabric, like the cold nails trailing up the arch of her back, when the lights flickered out.

Author notes

This is a Free-write we got given for ten minutes in my writing class last term. In typing up some writing I decided to submit it. It is based of my reality, in the old house I used to live in that was haunted.

    I know how cold a house could be. It came off to me as a creepy and creaky house but not like the old kind the more sterile almost off new kind of thing. Anyway its always cool when people can sense the supernatural and you say you can? I need to find out stuff from you then .

    Very impressed by how quickly you established the creepy image of the sinister house.
    that is was done as a free write (and only in 10 minutes) makes it even more impressive.

    keep up the brilliant work. This is really awesome i think you should just keep on working and maybe you could sell a novel. Once a gain wondderful job.
