You think you do but you don't (13)

A few minutes went by before She text me back. She said she missed me too. I smiled and text back.1

'I can't wait to get outta here. Jackes are getting on my nerves!'2

'Aww babe hang in there. Half an hour.'She text back.3

'I wanna c u. '4

'You'll see me during passing period.'5

'But I wanna hold u n kiss u.'6

'We can't! Talk later k? bye I love you.'7

I let out a sigh and reluctantly shoved my phone back into my pocket. It was always like this. As soon as we're on school grounds it's like I don't even exist to her anymore. The things we do for love I guess.8

I looked back onto the screen and acted like I was paying attention. It was some flick about a war. I'm not sure which though. History used to be my thing. But ever since seventh grade My history class has always been a pain. My ex friend Cathy, she outed me to the whole seventh grade history class then again in eight grade when I got stuck with her again!9

It's as if I were cursed or something. Every History class there will be those who just don't have a life so they ruin mine. Well for that time of day anyway. That Cathy, when I think about I just want to punch her face in. One of these days I swear one of these days I will.10

But lucky enough school hasn't been all that bad. Some of my straight friends continued to be there for me and I met a bunch of people like me. We get along great but sometimes it gets a bit awkward. Some days my straight friends try and watch what they say or what jokes they tell for fear of offending my gay friends. Then other days its vice versa.11

*Bleeeep* One of the bells sounded the end of first.12

"Okay class see you tomorrow." Mr Fedrick said as the lights came back on. Blinding me for a minute.13

Here and there bodies scrambled to the door creating a jam. So I had to wait to get out. As if it were my choice. I wanted to get out as fast as I can so that I can go see May for a bit before second period started.14

"Mrs. Long! Mrs. Long! Hang on wait a minute!" I heard Mr. Fedrick call to me.15

At that moment I thought. 'Just get out. Just get out. Ignore him.' Oddly I ended up turning around and facing him.16

"Mrs. Long is my mother." I said sharply as the last of my classmates disappeared into the halls. The exact halls I wanted to be in.17

"Ok sorry. Layla...I"18

"Whatdoyahwant." I said slurring my words together.19

"I want to apologize for earlier."20

"What about?" I asked annoyed with this man and myself for not leaving.21

"About letting them tease you like that."22

"Look you're a couple months too late. Ok? I can handle myself just fine and in a few months I'll finally be rid of teacher like you." I spat as I jabbed at his chest.23

"It's just... You don't know what it's like for me." He said cowering away from me.24

'What's with this guy?' I thought25

"HOW HARD could it be to tell them to STOP!? YOU'RE the teacher! Do you know how hard it is for a gay student like myself to sit there and act like their words don't hurt!? AND to top it off the person whose supposed to be like SUPPORT doesn't do jack !?" I shouted at him unable to control my anger. This man just really pisses me off.26

"I do. I honestly do." He said. That's when I saw it. His pain, his fears. This man had suddenly become an open book. And I realised this man might also be gay.27

"Oh my god Mr.Fedrick you're 'family'." I said more of a question than a statement.28

"Yes. But if anyone finds out I'll lose my job for sure."29

"You can trust me I wont tell. But it would sure be nice if you can get those people off my back once and a while." I said smiling at him. My hatred towards this man slowly dissipating.30

"Sure thing." He said and I was out the door.31

I scanned the hallway for any signs of May but I didn't see her. So I quickly made my way to our spot. The place we usually meet up for a minute or two before classes. It was the only place on campus where we could be together and no one would know. It was on the other end of campus where the guidance counselors office was. No one ever went there.32

When I got to the grass covered area I didn't see her. SO I walked over to the tree we usually sat under. Sure enough the boulder that was always there sat waiting. I lifted it to find a note.33

'You're late! Anyway see you today at lunch. Love you.'34

I smiled at the note then carefully folded it up and placed it into my back pocket. Disappointed I walked lazily to class. I crossed to the E wing for My Calculus class. Now this class I hated a lot. Math has been and always will be my worst subject. I have no idea what the teacher is talking about and it's amazing that I even pass the finals.35

"Hey Lay. How yah been?" Dave asked as he spotted me coming into the E buildings hall.36

I flashed him a smile. "I've been alright I guess. You?"37

Dave is My closest guy friend of two years. We really hit it off when I first met him. I tell him everything. Well most everything. I haven't told him that I like girls. It's not that I don't trust him. I just don't know how to bring it up.38

"I've been down dude."39

"What dude why?"40

"Member that girl I told you about?" He said his eyes casted to the ground.41

"Yea what about her?"42

"Well I finally asked her out, but she said she was already seeing someone."43

"I'm so sorry." Was all I could think of saying.44

"The worst part is that, that someone is my older twin brother." He said as he kicked at the ground.45

"Dang dude forget her then. Any chick who's blind enough to choose Your brother Marcus over you isn't worth your time." I half joked as I patted him on the back. This was our way of saying cheer up or I'm here for you.46

"Hurry up. Hustle. One minute to go." The teachers and other staff members called as people quickly rushed into class. And we followed suit.
