A Blast From the Past

A Blast From the Past !
W. Peter Sanci 1

I just got off the phone with
one of my best friend’s from
my University Days, Al !
We e mail each other all the
time, but it still doesn’t
match that listening to the
sound of his voice, that hasn’t
changed in over 30 years…
I called him to see if he was
coming down this summer. He
said he was. His parents are
going up to Vermillion Bay, and
he is driving them back down.
I said great, we’ll have to get
get together. I am glad I did !
He told me his mom was turning
80 in August. Wow ! My dad is
turning 80 next August…
After I hung up the phone, a
couple of cute stories came to
my mind…. We met in first year
at Brock University. That year
we were on the same floor. We
didn’t become good friends till
second year though, that year we
had single rooms next to each
other……
Then during our third year, we
rented that basement apartment
on “what’s the name of that
street ? “ Then, our good times
began.. One really sad note, my
mother passed away in January
Of that year and I was tempt
ed to quit, but Al, his parents
my dad urged me to stay and
complete my B.A., which I did..
Now to the several humorous
stories: I’m sure Al will re-
member the time I tried to
make candles, as a way to save
money for Christmas presents.
I’m boiling the wax on the stove
and the next thing I know our
landlords upstairs had called
the fire dept.. I had created
a three alarm blaze try to be
creative.. Ha, ha.. The fire
department of St. Catharine’s,
Recommended I stop making candles.
Then there was my little yellow
Maverick ! Remember that Al ??
Once we went through the Shell
Car Wash Genova Street. We got
Stuck in the Wash cycle for 20
Minutes, then every time it
rained you the damned car stalled
and you had to get out and jiggle
the carburetor to get to started.
What the heck is a Carburetor..
Then remember those Wednesday
dinner’s at Ed and Mona’s,
watching The Sony and Cher Show
and ogling Cher and Mona yelling
from the kitchen,”What’s she got
that I haven’t got ? And the three
of us would yell back a Body !
And Ed kept calling you the
Korean Crusher, because he
Never got it that you were
Japanese….
One more goodie, then I’ll
stop.. I’ve been writing for
40 minutes… remember we used
to have Chili cook off’s every
week, to see who could make
the hottest chili… You always
won. Ha, ha, ha….
Well it sure has been fun
going down memory lane this
afternoon, Al. I sure am
glad I called you .2
