I ran after him, but stopped right before I went outside, as it was pouring down rain. It was funny, since there was no rain in the forecast. “Adam, wait!” I called out one more time before he got any further. He stopped, but he didn’t turn around.8

Quickly, I ran over to him as fast as my heels would allow. “Could we please talk about this?” I asked when I got within a few feet of him.9

“Talk about what?” he said turning on me. “That you told Justin that we would ‘break up’ after Homecoming weekend so you could date him?”10

“I told him that the very first day everyone knew about us. I told him the other day that things have changed. I was going to talk to you about it this weekend,” I pleaded.11

“You want to know why I picked you to be my pretend girlfriend?” he said while looking down at the ground.12

“Because we’re best friends?” I said confused.13

“No. I could have picked anyone in the whole damn school. Or I could have just said screw it and forget about the girlfriend thing all together.”14

“But then the team would have spread rumors about you being gay,” I said shocked.15

“I could care less about being called gay. I’m in love with you dammit!” he yelled, taking a step towards me. “The whole reason that I’ve never had a girlfriend? It’s all because I’m in love with you. Sure, I’ve been on a few dates here and there, but I just wasn’t interested. Every date that I went on, I kept picturing you and comparing them to you. I ended up just giving up on dating anyone else. I just can’t stop thinking about you Dev.”16
