Defining Time

As I thought about what to write I started to realize what a strange word "time" is. After saying it continually, it sounded unfamiliar, as if I had never really looked at it, never really said it. This happens sometimes; words decide to betray my trust, just as I think I know them. How many times have I spelt "time"? I just spelled it again, and still it jumps from the page, daring me to take it out. I can't even begin to imagine, just as I can't guess how many "times" I've spelled out my name. And time is such a simple word. T I M E. And what does it mean, anyways? Is it the past? The present? The future? That's the thing! I can't seem to pinpoint it, it just evades me. Where time is, when it is, it doesn't like to be found. Besides, you cant experience time; it's just felt, like a rush of wind past your face. You don't get to fly solo in the wind, you don't get to go along with the wind, you don't get to be the wind. You just feel it. Time is felt, it certainly is, but can we really define it?

I hate time. As a matter of fact, right now I am running out of time, as I've been procrastinating on my math homework for about an hour now.

    Hello, Elms. I love this little paragraph. It's very thought-provoking, very true. Time is definitely felt, but it can never truly be defined, truly understood. It's the cousin of Death, after all. Who can truly define death? What is it to no longer exist? Or do those who die get elevated to a higher astral plane? Ok. Sorry. Perhaps I'm over thinking this piece. Awesome job.

      Thanks. I completely understand what you mean about death. I guess some people would say that time is only something that prepares a person for death, but I can't really believe that. Time seems like the reward for dying at the end of it all... but does that mean time stops when you die? Then again, who am to say what time is?

    Sometimes I think that time is just something someone created a long time ago to spite us all. It could all just be fictional. Who knows if it really exists?
