Chapter 131
At the end of the driveway I stopped, there ahead of us was acre after acre of farmland. “Drake…how will we cross it all before day?” I held tightly onto his hand as fear gripped me. Drake peered at me with his golden brown eyes. “We don’t.” He said. He pulled me towards a small rise of land. Once we were over it I saw there was a little wooden door built into the base of the hill. Drake gave me a small smile. “I had nearly forgotten this was here, I built it for Pat, Mavick’s uncle enjoys spending a night here before he heads of for his home.” Drake leaned over and I found myself marvelling at his muscles as he pulled the door open. It smelt musty and damp inside, but I followed Drake into the darkness. 2
We sat at the far end of the room, against the bas of the small hill, the packed dirt felt cold against my back. I strained to hear what was happening above our heads, and it didn’t take long to hear the soft footsteps of the vampires. Drake’s hand reached up and covered my mouth, his fingers pinching my nose shut. My eyes widened as I realised he was blocking my breath.3
Was this it then? Had Drake changed his mind and decided to kill me after all? Then his other hand started to trace the outline of my neck and my shoulder. I realised then that he was trying to quieten the sound of my heart. I closed my eyes and let myself relax, ignoring the fact that my lungs were burning for air. 4
The footsteps faded, and Drake let go of me. “Don’t they know about this place?” I asked after I had gotten my breath back. I felt more then saw Drake shake his head. “They never cared enough to know were I built it.” He said, his voice so soft I nearly missed it. 5
After a while of waiting, I started to see more in the small room, and I realised the sun must be rising outside. The room became a Smokey grey, but it was not light enough to burn Drake. I was wondering what we would do to wait out the day when Drakes hand started to slide up my thigh. 6
The room was cold, and my breath came out in little puffs of white. I gasped as Drake’s hand slid between my thighs. Slowly he lowered me to the floor, the dust rose slightly, some of it settling on his skin. He leaned over me, his two strong arms pillars on either side of my head. 7
He lifted one hand and traced a slow circle over my stomach. His eyes stared intently at me. “Do you think they are ok?” I asked my thoughts straying to Anna and Lamar and even Alex. Drake sighed in annoyance. “Lottie, I am sure they are fine.” He gripped my wrists and pulled them over my head. “There is nothing we can do at the moment either way.” He kissed a trail down my neck and I felt him enter me deeply. As he pushed his hips back and forwards I forgot for a moment about our friends, about why I was under the ground with a vampire, I lost myself in the thrust of his hips, and the searing ecstasy of his teeth sinking into my neck. Hi’s grip on my wrists tightened as he traced circles over my breasts with his tongue, and then with one final powerful thrust, he bent his back, his head arching toward the roof of the room, and I felt his release inside me. 8
He lay by my side and I absently drew lines across the marks on his skin. “I love you.” I told him as I peer up into his eyes. He glanced down at me and I wondered at how much I had changed in the time I had been kidnapped to now. Never in my life had I thought I would see the world, and the future in someone else’s eyes. Never had I thought I would love a vampire, and never had I thought I would carry his child. I felt the weight of responsibility settle onto my shoulders. I had to get us out of this mess, so that we could look after the child that was growing inside me, so that we could have a life together, so that I could make the impossible possible. “I love you too.” He answered, It could have been my imagination, but I thought I saw something flash over his face, something that resembled happiness. As his hand held tightly to mine I realised that I was not in this alone. 9

She stood around the corner wishing she was not such a coward, wishing she would get the will to run back to Lamar’s aid. And then she heard it, Lamar’s scream. It echoed through the hall. Anna leaned around the corner and peered up the hall. Mavick had Lamar on his knees, his nails were digging into Lamar’s shoulders. Anna felt memories tug at her, how Drake had cut out her tongue, how Cyrus and Mavick and the others had rapped her over and over, how they had stolen her life and her future. Before she realised she was doing it, she had stepped from her hiding place and was walking towards Mavick and Lamar. 11
