Chapter 121
I looked at Lamar, and saw the determination on his face. I realised then that I probably would never see him again, and that he probably would not outlive his daring distraction. He was going to give his life for a vampire and a vampire lover. The depth of it all amazed me, it was the greatest sacrifice anyone had ever made for me, and it was something I could never fully repay him for. I wrapped my arms around him, and hugged him to me as fresh tears coursed down the trail of old ones. Just as I untangled myself from Lamar I felt rather then saw the door open. 2
I froze and it took me a while to turn around, fear holding me rooted to the spot. When I finally managed to get my stubborn feet of the floor, I turned around to see Anna in the doorway. Drake let out a long sigh of frustration, but I felt my lips stretch to form a smile on my face. “Anna!” I said, hope that maybe we could take her with us, filling me. Anna returned my smile, though I could see it was forced.3
Her face fell again and she motioned towards a large wardrobe I hadn’t seen before. “Hide.” Lamar said his face showing barely concealed panic. I felt Drake grasp my arm and he pulled me towards the wardrobe. 4
It was filled with coats, and dresses. The fabric rubbed against my skin as we entered, and I held back a sneeze as dust collected in the confined space. As I stood there with Drake pressed besides me, and me trying to calm my heart beat I thought suddenly about the fairy tale Blue beard. Probably not the best thought to go through my head at a moment like this, especially with all the dresses and coats rubbing against my exposed skin. I managed to stop myself from checking the floor for blood. 5
“Were is She?” I cringed as I heard Mavick’s voice bellow from beyond the wardrobe door. “We just searched this room, no one is here.” I heard Lamar say, and I hoped that after this was all done I would be able to thank him again. “Well My pet, what the hell are we doing here then?” I heard Cyrus say, and soon the room was silent again. 6
Drake silently slid the cupboard door open, and we slipped back into the room. Drake said nothing as he led me towards the door. I felt my heart tug as I watched him move, the subtle sway of his hips, and the powerful movement of his shoulders, the muscles that tensed and bunched at every move. I remembered pulling my fingers through his black hair, and suddenly I felt a knot in my throat. If anything happened to him, I don’t know what I would do. 7
After what seemed like hours of sneaking around, we finally came to the large double doors that I had first been lead into so long ago. Drake started towards it, but I stayed rooted to the spot. He turned and gave me a confused glance. “Will we make it?” I asked him, and felt tears brimming in my eyes as his face softened. Without a word he held out his hand and took mine. I felt him squeeze it gently and then we were out the door. 8
I don’t know what I had expected when I fell in love with a vampire, maybe lots of cold hugs, and a few scars from the bites, but it completely shocked me when I saw The two guards at the front door simply drop dead in front of Drake. He had moved so fast, I wouldn’t have known what had killed them if it hadn’t been for the odd angle their necks were lying at. 9
I looked at the long winding driveway and wondered how we were going to make it. The moon lit the night so that it was visible to anyone who looked out the door. Drake grasped my hand tightly, and we ran towards the big gates at the end of the driveway, leaving the mansion behind us, and all those inside it.10

Anna watched as Lamar walked silently behind Cyrus. Mavick had a painful grip of her arm. “Mavick!” Desiree came streaking into the hall. “They have gotten out the front gates, four guards are down!” She wrung her hands and bounced on the ball’s of her feet. “Shall we go after them?” She asked. Mavick released Anna’s wrist. “I want them back alive! Go!” Mavick shouted before stalking of towards his room. Anna followed him as did Cyrus and Lamar. Lamar dropped back towards Anna’s side. “Anna, it has been good knowing you, please I want you to run, I will take care of these two.” Before Anna could shake her head Lamar fished a makeshift metal spike from somewhere. He wrapped his arm around Cyrus’s neck, and plunged the spike into his heart. Cyrus screamed out and dropped to the floor with a thud. As Mavick turned around she ran, Mavick’s face full of rage imbedded in her memory. Lamar did not stand a chance. 12
