Hindsight

He never knew when it was going to happen. One moment he’d be working or playing, wherever, and then he would be there again. Ten years after and he still went back without any control over it. 1

It didn’t bother him personally, except for the emotional deluge afterward, and sometimes the urges. They were sometimes hard to handle. It bothered his girlfriend a lot. She always expected he would hurt her one day. She trusted him less with each episode.2

He didn’t ask for it. He didn’t think it would happen to him back then. Or now. Funny how it snuck up on him.3

He grinned a lopsided grin, remembered his buddies, and accepted that a civilian would never understand.4

A very good story! It may be about a trauma left by war or by any other event where there was violence involved. To some people is hard to leave the past behind even when they fight to get rid of it.
Thanks for this entry and all the luck with everything you do!

    simply amazing

WOW!! This is a fantastic write. Made me think of Leutinant Dan from Forrest Gump. Odd, I know. So many people do not realize the effect of PTSD, I sadly do. Hard to keep a past terror from creeping back unexpectedly. I applaud this, and you. Bravo poet.

    Blessed be

Post traumatic stress sydrome, never been to war but I can imagine who it would change one's life. This is an excellent observation, not only of the man, but of how it affects someone who loves him.
