A dream to remember.

I am on my knees, it is a hard floor. Tile? No, wood. Dusty, soiled wood. There is a solitary beam of light, I cannot see the bulb because is shines above my head. I cannot see anything in this room. Just a wood floor. 1

Then, my stomach turns. I feel fear like I never have before. It grips my stomach like a vice, pushing the bile up my throat. My heart, it hurts my rib-cage with the passion in which it beats. I hear a click. The wood floor creaks.2

Suddenly, I am looking down a barrel.3

My chest shudders, I am on my knees and staring into a gun. A male holds it, I can not see his face… but I know he is male. He stands outside of the solitary beam, all I can see is a white hand clasped around the butt and his silhouette, hovering above me.4

I do not cry, I do not beg for my life. I stare into the incomprehensible blackness of the barrel, waiting.5

I awake in agony. My stomach feels as if it is caving in on itself, my chest throbs and I desperately have to go to the washroom. I stumble to the toilet. Hunched over, I clasp my hands over my gut and realise my shirt feels like I just brought it in from the rain. Somehow, I go back to sleep that night.

Author notes

This is all, word for word, true.

Normally, my dreams are just... weird. And I mean, I compare with my friends and boyfriend, and their's just don't add up to mine. This, is one of the only, striaght-to-the-point, clear and obvious dreams I have ever had.

I have also, never, ever, felt the way I did when I woke up. Before or since.

I could see why something like this would creep someone out really. I have had nightmares similar, but not exactly like this of course, so I can somewhat relate to the feeling and sense of fear and weirdness of this. You did a good job with detail and description. I always have vivid and colorful dreams when I sleep; sometimes strange ones that I spend days trying to comprehend, and sometimes downright nightmares that terrify the living hell out of me. I'm mostly insomniac- and when I sleep, I only make it to the dream stage of sleeping. haha. Makes for interesting story-telling though- like you did here.

Thanks for entering this in the contest Good work

Scary dream about being shot. You captured the dream so well. It seemed so real, that I forgot for a second that it was all just a dream. This shows that it was a very good piece of writing.

It does not really affect me. I do not feel your terror. I realize that when it is you experiencing it it is magnified. The writing does not convey the tenseness that you say it has.
My bad dreams involve cars with no brakes or lockers not coming open. Not terrifying sounding at all but the times I have those dreams I know I am stressed and my life is out of control.

hmmm... thank-you for your feed back. The dream was really just the simple image of me on my knees with a gun to my head.. It did not have action or speaking, so it was a bit of a stuggle convey the feeling I woke up with.. Thank-you though.

and it is interesiting you say you know your life is out of control when you dream like that, becasue mine wasn't. If anything, I think I was afraid the next murder in this town of mine would be me... who knows tho.

Nicely written. You could make a sceen of a horror story with this one.
If you never, ever have a nightmare such as that, you would be happy. I have nightmares regulary, and often I wake up soked and shaken, sometimes in tears. So I kind of know how you felt.
Oh, well. Maybe there will be some nicer dreams around the corner, huh?
