Midnight Song ~ Chapter Three1
Exile 2
Coal and Striker had nearly made it back to the ShadowPaw camp, Coal was still in shock at what had happened. “Don’t worry Coal, I‘ll make sure you‘re welcome.” he said trying to reassure her. Coal sighed and looked at him. “I‘m sorry, because of this Stone is going to attack your camp and I-” Striker cut her short. “Stone can attack if he wants. But I swear, I‘ll never let him lay a paw on you.” Striker looked into her eyes his heart filled with his love for her, but something else as well, worry. 3
There were only two clans in the whole forest. They had smaller packs that branched out from their main clan, but there was no half breeds. Either you were born in StarFire clan or ShadowPaw clan, there was no wolf that had both clan blood types flowing in their veins. Striker knew that Coal might not be accepted because she was from another clan, and that he might even loose his position as leader of ShadowPaw clan, or worse be exiled. He shivered at the thought.4
Coal sighed as she saw the camp up ahead. ShadowPaw’s Camp was surrounded by tall pine trees on top of a hill, she’d never been here before and her heart sped up at the thought of finally being able to see what it looked like. Striker glanced over at her and smiled. But a pang of worry hit his heart he knew his pack mates wouldn’t like Coal staying with them, but he knew as long as he was leader she could stay. Coal and Striker padded up the hill. All the pine trees grew close together, but Coal saw one spot where it looked like one was missing she thought it might be the entrance. Striker didn’t slow his pace, and walked right past the opening. Coal looked at him about to question him, but she saw the thorns that covered the ground. It was a trick, so if anyone wanted to attack the ShadowPaw camp they would see the opening and run right into the trap.5
Striker lead her around to the other side of the pines. And Coal could smell other wolves all around. Striker kept walking until they saw a large rock that was in the middle of the clearing. a lot of wolves were all around the clearing some where talking in small groups others were sleeping in the sun. but they all looked at her and Striker now watching them closely. Striker walked right up the rock and climbed on top of it. He howled and then all the members of ShadowPaw came out of the shadows and gathered around to listen to their leaders words.6
“My clan mates,” he began. “I would like to inform you that Coal,” he paused to look at her. She climbed on the rock next to him. “Will be joining our clan.” he said looking at the faces of the wolves around him. “She is going to stay with us and I want her-” Striker stopped mid sentence when Rusty thrust his way through the crowd of wolves. “Striker are you mad!” he yelled. “She is from StarFire, You can possibly have her join!” Cinder stood behind Rusty with a sad look on her face, how could Striker do this? Some of the other wolves growled, and others just glared at their leader.7
Striker’s ears fell flat and pressed against his head. “She has been banished from StarFire. Where else is she going to go?” he asked angrily. Rusty growled at him. “Striker you are a fool. She‘s from StarFire clan. She can not stay here. She needs to leave, she‘ll just be a rouge like the others who have not place in the clans.” Striker looked at his old friend with anger burning in his eyes. “I will not let her go out alone to like the life of a rouge, that’s not fare for her it wasn‘t even her fault Stone kicked her out.” Striker still looked at Rusty. “Then who‘s fault was it?” Rusty questioned him. Striker sighed and jumped down from the rock. “It was mine.” he said sadly.
