“What? Where?” I eagerly asked1

“It seems Eddy was found walking around the park. She was seriously hurt, and she told us where we could find her brother...”2

“Derek! Is he okay!”3

“...Eddy... she demanded to see you as soon as possible.” He ignored my question.4

“Their mother?” I asked anyway5

“She is fine also.”6

“You remember everything that happened right Katrina?”7

I painfully nodded. “Everything.” 8

“Their father is in custody.”9

Tears slid down my cheeks. I wiped them away and the emotions I hid for a year poured out. 10

I took the fastest bus out to Ohio. I got into a taxi and I went back to the house where everything happened. Eddy was waiting for me in front of the house. When she saw me her eyes watered and she cried. Her lips were blue and they looked beaten and cut. Her eyes had lines under them and one was purple. Her arms were just covered in bruises, and her neck had bite marks. When I saw I broke crying too. I ran out of the Taxi and held her. “Eddy! Oh my god!” 11

She shook when she cried. “I’m fine now, I’m so glad you came back Kitty.” 12

“Of course! I could never leave you guys by yourselves!” 13

“Derek...” I asked14

She looked at me with pity.15

“I’m so sorry Kitty, he lost his memory!”16

A tear slipped from my eye. Derek had to remember me.17

“Where is he?” 18

“...He’s with Katie... He seems to remember her.”19

“I should see him.” I said20

“Not now, please Kitty.”21

I nodded. Why didn’t she want me to see him?22

We walked into the house it still looked the same but the champagne glasses weren’t broke or anything. “My mother was beat everyday in front of us. She’s well but... she’s in the hospital. She’s fine.”23

“You must be hungry Kitty.” She made dinner. 24

I heard laughing upstairs. It sounded like Derek. 25

“Eddy can I use the bathroom?” 26

“Yeah.” She said27

I walked up the stairs. I was so eager to see Derek. I looked through the crack of his door. Katie was on his lap and they were smiling. Another tear fell down my cheek. I felt like breaking down. Derek still looked the same. His black hair was shiny his beautiful blue eyes I longed to see for so long were shiny, his pale skin was still the same color. Under his left eye was blue and he still had a cut on his lip. 28

Katie kissed him. I stood up and ran into the bathroom. I cried on the floor.29

“Kitty?” Eddy knocked30

I stood up and wiped my tears away and turned the faucet on. “Yes?”31

“Dinner’s ready.” 32

I sniffed “Okay.”33

I redid my makeup and made sure my eyes weren’t read or swollen. 34

Derek and Katie were sitting at the table. Katie looked at me with big eyes. “Kitty...” 35

Derek looked up at me. “Hi.” He said36

“I’m Derek.” He smiled37

My heart shattered. Eddy looked at me. “Kitty I have to talk to you.”38

She dragged me upstairs into her room. “...I’m sorry.” She finally said39

“No Eddy don’t be sorry none if this is even you’re fault!” I cried. My eyes were like sprinklers. “Derek... is everything to me... finding out he’s with Katie is okay. I’m fine with it. He looks happy and I’ll just have to get over this.” 40

“No that bitch Katie knows you love him! Don’t give up! He only remembers her because they’ve known each other for so long!” 41

“Eddy I’m fine! He’s happy!” 42

She hugged me. 43

“I’m not really hungry so... I’ll just unpack.”44

She nodded and left me. 45

When she left I fell on the floor I held onto her bed post and sobbed. 46

Why Derek? Why did you have to forget me!47

It was 3 in the morning and I still couldn’t sleep. I silently cried to myself. Eddy lied by me. She knew how I felt. She held onto me while she slept. I pictured Derek sound asleep, the way he looked, and Katie in his arms. Maybe I shouldn’t be here in this house. I was doing well without him. Eddy awoke at 9. “Kitty you’re up?” 48

“Yes.” I said49

“Are you hungry?” She asked50

“Yes...” I replied51

“...My dad beat us everyday.” She said52

“Derek got it the worst... he tried defending me and my mom... I know some of him still remembers you... Just don’t give up...”53

I nodded.54

“Eddy it’s all my fault! I didn’t even try to defend you when he was there hurting you! I didn’t do anything!” 55

“Don’t think that Kitty! Please!” We both cried for a hour straight. 56

I took a shower and dressed in a Blood on The Dance Floor shirt and black tight jeans. I straightened my hair and did my makeup. I went downstairs and ran into someone. “Sorry.” I said looking up. It was Derek. “Ugh yeah me too.” He smiled57

I couldn’t smile back. I had to resist the urge to cry and hug him so I walked away.58

“Wait!” He said 59

“Yes?” I asked60

“...This is strange but I feel like I know you... almost like... I...Forget it I’m crazy...” He said and walked away. I stared at the ground. and walked downstairs. 61

I wish you knew who I was Derek, every time I see you I want to cry, I needed you so bad and now you’re here in front of me in the same house and you don’t remember me.62
