Eddie Joe aimed the gun carefully, sighting down the barrel and aligning the small V with the tan color of the deer, obviously nibbling on the lush, green bush. He’d been in the blind for seven hours now and this was the first one he had seen. He could barely make out the antlers through the thick brush, but he wasn’t as concerned with size as he was with completing his day with a kill. Then, he saw the faint red glow, smelled smoke, and heard it. "I’m over here, Dave," the deer said. Eddie Joe lowered his gun, trembling.2

This is based on something that happened to my father-in-law. He was the "deer" who lit a cigarette and had the hunter run up to him, trembling.

Oh goodness. I am mixed on this one. I loved the odd humor, but despise hunting. LOL. Either way a great write.

My husband had quite a hair-raising experience some years ago where two hunters actually shot at him and his friend. I really don't see any resemblance between him and a deer, though, so we figure they had left their scopes or glasses at home.

Terrible accidents happen in the hunting season. Here you show a very clear scene of what could have turned into a tragedy.

What a close call here, Paul. I've heard of things like this happening. I'm glad I'm not in to hunting ...or being hunted.
