"I think we should take more than just a break." she said, breathing deeply to keep the tears from flowing. 1
He looked at her, dumbfounded. "What?" he managed to get out. His hand trembled slightly.2
"It's just that," she stopped, massaging her forehead. She found that it was the best way to keep from crying. "You'll always love her more than anything, and I don't want to be second." she said, glancing nervously to her wristband to make sure it was still hiding the cuts.3
He blinked, as if waiting for her to go on. Whether that was what he meant or not by the silence, she continued.4
"I've always been second to everyone, even myself. Everyone always comes first." Her lip trembled, and she closed her eyes, trying to hold the tears in a bit longer.5
"If you were meant to be with her, it'll happen. If not, you can find someone else. I just don't think it should be this hard." A small tear came from the corner of her eye, and she wiped it away immediately.6
He continued to say nothing. All he could do was curse himself for screwing something else up.7
"I love you more than anything, but I can't be second. I can't handle being second." she stared at the ground, her breathing steady but her face covered in tears. 8
