The world in the mirror chapter 3

Chapter Three1

David woke up the next day when he smelt bacon sizzling in the kitchen. The sky was dark outside, but there were lampposts lighting the sky. There was something missing from the sky, a moon. It was cold as always and the children had a lot of work to do. Three days ago they had been told that they have to complete 5 tasks to free the people of Sadaia. The first task was to find the fairies and release them. Sarah had already found one on their first night in Sadaia. Fortunately, Sarah’s fairy Kylipta could hear her fellow fairies. Kylipta could hear the screams and would follow the noise to find them. Well that was the plan anyway.2

Sarah, Charlie and David got up and got ready for the day ahead. They wore hats, gloves and a scarf. Kylipta always floated over Sarah’s shoulder.3

“I hear them! They’re around here somewhere.”Kylipta said as she flew over towards a lamppost flickering in the dark. She heard them shouting her name and crying for help, but they were nowhere to be seen. They were just walking around the same empty spot for ages.4

“Up there!” shouted Charlie as he pointed up at the flickering lamppost. He was right. Kylipta flew up to the light and looked in to see 99 fairies of all shapes and sizes trapped inside a small space. They were banging on the glass but it wouldn’t smash. If the kids and Kylipta smashed it they would risk hurting them. So they decided to cut a hole into the glass with a sharp knife from Mr Tom’s cabin.5

Kylipta flew up to the streetlight and began to cut a hole in the glass. There was a painful screeching noise as she carved a circle in the light. Then the circle fell out and 99 golden blurs went past Kylipta and flew down to the children. They were blasted with “thank you” and “you’re my hero” from tiny voices. Most flew away, but 8 fairies stayed and offered to help them on their quest to save Sadaia. 6

They had seen the vicar who had praised them for completing their first task but had also reminded them that they only had 17 days to do all of their tasks. Now they had been reminded that they didn’t have long, they begun to worry about disappointing everyone. Unlike with finding the light fairies they had no clue were to start with finding Emaco the dragon. He could be anywhere in the whole of Sadaia.8

“Okay let’s split up,” David suggested. “Charlie, go with those 3 fairies, Sarah and Kylipta go together with another 3 fairies and I will go with the rest. Charlie, go into the forest, Sarah go around the east caves and I will go up to the castle.” The evil queen, the king and Dre lived in the castle which made going there very dangerous. It was a gigantic black building surrounded by tall metal fences. They had large spikes on them. Hundreds of Dre’s group guarded the castle and wouldn’t let anyone in. 9

When David and his 3 fairies, Fairo, Hylia and Symona, got near the castle they hid in the trees. It would be impossible to get past the guards unless they could make David invisible. Hylia hovered above him and sprinkled gold dust on him. Then slowly his legs disappeared, then his waist and all the way up to his head. Now he was completely invisible except to the fairies, they could see him. They crept up to the gates and silently slipped past the guards. They went right up you the doors which were about 20 metres high with massive handles that David struggled to open. Inside was a long hall with stain glass windows with images of death on them. There were men in black capes with hoods. They looked at the opening door and scuffled of to tell. At the end of the hall there was stairs going down. David thought that maybe there was a dungeon and that would be an obvious place to find a dragon. The stairs were steep and long. After a few minutes of walking they were in what looked like a prison. It was cold and damp with stone walls and floors. There were men in the cells. 10

“Hey. Who are you?” asked one of the men in the cells.11

“What? You’re not supposed to see me! The spell must be wearing off.” David said.12

“You must be one of the saviours. The guards were talking about you yesterday. You need to find the dragon, my dragon, don’t you? I was his rider but when the dark queen took over. Then they locked us both up because we were danger to her throne.”13

“That’s right. Do you know where he is then?” David asked.14

“Yes, I’ll show you if you let me out. He needs me. I’m his strength. The keys are over there.” He said, as he pointed to a bunch of keys on a hook.15

One of the fairies flew over and brought the keys to David. He unlocked the cell and the man got up and thanked them. He led them to a cell with a gigantic red dragon in it. He was tied down with chains and looked unhealthy and hurt. The dragon was about ten feet tall and had to duck in the small cell. His back was bent and looked really painful. He was tied with thick chains wrapper around his ankles and wrists. He had large wings which once would have been strong but now they were weak and half dead. 16

Emaco the dragon was sleeping and they woke him up. He slowly lifted his head up and saw his former rider.17

“Emaco! Are you ok? We need to get out of here! Come on, we are going to go to the caves in the south,” explained Rupert, the man who had found Emaco. Suddenly his strength grew and his arms and legs broke out of the thick chains and his wings became strong. David opened the cell door and went inside. The man climbed on top of Emaco and he flew up and smashed the ceiling of the prison and flew out of the castle. Bricks and ceiling were everywhere and David watched as Rupert flew off into the distance as they had planned.18

“Hey! You! What are you doing down here? Wait a minute, you’re that David kid. I’m sure that Dre and the queen will be happy to see you!” Said a loud masculine voice as he grabbed David on the shoulder and picked him up. The 3 fairies, Fairo, Hylia and Symona had flown off to warn the others, so he was on his own. 19

Two more guards came down and helped getting him to the Queen and Dre. David struggled but wasn’t strong enough to take on 3 strong guards. They dragged him up 2 sets of stairs, through loads of corridors and finally dropped him onto his knees in a dark room. The windows were blacked out and there was only candle light in the room. It the corner there was a tall, thin figure which David guessed was Tupalisa the queen. Then next to her was the magician Dre. He lifted his hand and sparks flew above him. It lighted up the room so that David could see their faces. They were whispering between themselves about what they were going to do with him. 20

“Stand up!” shouted Tupalisa. David stood up and looked at them. “Now you think that you can save this world from me? Well you’re an idiot! You are a weak little boy and you have about a 1% chance of completing these challenges but, just to make sure that you don’t complete them, you are going to be locked up. Your brother and sister can’t do this without you so if you’re not there they won’t have a chance at defeating me.” 21

David was told by Mr Tom never to say anything to the queen or Dre so he just stood there blankly not saying a thing. Nevertheless, he knew that what she was saying was true, but his siblings could find him or someone else to help them complete the remaining three tasks.22
