Michell laid awake in her bed. She'd been trying to sleep for a couple of hours now and sleep has yet to find her. Nicks face was continuously running through her mind. She hasn't been able to really talk to him since the diner.1
She laid and she tossed and turned but, nothing helped her forget what had happened. Nothing she did would remove Nick from her minds eye. He was all she could think about. It frustrated her that he could make her feel like a she did all those years ago when they met.2
Michell had just started to doze when her phone went off. She looked at the screen and saw that it was Nick. "Hello?" she asked into the device carefully.3
"Oh, you're up." Nicks voice came from the other end, "Um, hi."4
"Yeah I'm up, is there something you want?" she asked, glancing at the clock. It read twelve fifty-five.5
"Um, was wondering if I could stop by. I want to talk to you," Nick said, sounding unsure of everything.6
"Oh, yeah, sure, why not," Michell said taken off guard.7
"Ok, could you let me in then, I'm out front," he said and hung up.8
Michell just stared at her phone until it registered that he was already there. She then quickly got up, dressed and opened the door for Nick. "You do know it's almost one in the morning, right?"9
"Yeah but, I wanted to see you and I figured that you would wanna talk after the last we talked."10
She nodded and moved so he could come in. "So, you decided the middle of the night would be the best to come by?"11
Nick moved passed her and turned to face her, "It was the only way to guarantee that you would be home."12
Michell turned her back to him and closed the door but, didn't turn back to face him, "Well, you could have called and set something up. What did you want anyway?"13
She saw him shrug from the corner of her eye, "I just want to know why you said what you said at the diner?"14
Turning to face him now, she stared at him, "Which part?"15
Nick sighed and walked over to her chair and sat down, "The part where you think that you don't make me happy? I don't get it, you've always made me happy and I thought you knew that. I can't help but smile when I see you or talk with you."16
Michell shook her head, "Like I said before, you say that now but, what about when someone better then me comes along? There is always someone better then me around and I think you can do and deserve better then me."17
"No, there isn't better. I looked and came up empty. No one makes me smile like you. No one is as selfless as you are when it comes to me. You want me to be happy? Being with you is what makes me happy." He stood and walked over to her, "And all I want is to be with you. Ever since I saw you for the first time, almost a decade ago, I wanted to be with you." He grabbed her and kissed her with a firey passion.18
Michell kissed him back, unable to resist. Once the kiss broke, she spoke, "Nick, I believe you but, we both still have a lot to sort out. I think that we should keep our distance as best we can from now on."19
Nick stared at her as she opened the door again.20
"Please leave before I let myself do something I might regret later. Please. If you truly want there to be an 'us' again, then you will leave and give me my space."21
He nodded and stepped forward, pausing to say one last thing before he left, "Please remember that I do love you and I'm not giving up on us or you."22
Tears were streaming down Michell's face before she even closed the door.
