Soon enough, the flight was called, and soon enough, I was situated in my seat. The aircraft wasn't completely full. There were quite a few no-shows. Too bad for them, but good for me. Cinders and I got nice, roomy seats towards the back, not near anyone but ourselves. 1
I've heard that most people don't like being in the back of planes. I love being in the back. Of course, you get fed last and you get attended to last, but if you're lucky, you get your own private oasis. 2
My bag had plenty of room in the overhead. I didn't have to feel guilty leaning all the way back, since there was nobody behind me. Cinders, in her carrier, had a seat to herself (as previously mentioned), which always makes her considerably less whiney. Most of all, though, I could write in my diary in private. Perfect.3
'Dear Diary,4
Going to Jake's. In Michigan. Annabelle and Haven will be my parents. Jacob will be my brother. That's insanely awkward. But great. Cinders will be with Sunny again, so she'll be happier. She's clawing at her carrier doors. She knows Sunny will be there to greet her. And I know Jake will be there to greet me. I'm not going to be there for the wedding. I hacked the airline ticket website and gave them a good deal on shipping me away before the ceremony. I don't like the name Melissa Stone. And I don't like Malcom. My ears are getting plugged. I want to go to Michigan, but going up in a plane sucks.5
Ashtynn.'6
I guess I should fill you in. Annabelle and Haven are Jake's mum and dad. I'm also a good internet hacker. That's pretty much everything I didn't tell you already.7
I fell asleep on the plane.8
I woke with a start as a stewardess tapped me on the shoulder. I was mad at her, but bit my tongue. People don't like it when I scream at them. 9
I picked up Cinders and my bag and got off the plane.10
***11
The airport was different, new. I liked it. I stopped to wrestle my tangled hair into a bun and played with my headband. l slapped on sunglasses and started up again. I followed the terminal signs to the baggage claim to look for my giant duffel and Jake. 12
Suddenly, Cinders tried to jump right out of her carrier (smashing against the netted walls). She made frantic mewling sounds. I heard identical noises behind me. 13
Sunny. Which meant... Jacob.14
I made a 360 and landed straight into a bear hug.15
"Nice to see you too." I laughed.
