Netherworld Diaries, Pt.4

I snapped back to what was at hand. Finding out how I had died.1

I walked onward on Scott Avenue and the streets were just like back home, except everything was distorted and and evil shadow of what I knew. There were even skeletal birds in the leafless trees...and they were alive, as well..but they didn't move or make a sound, they only watched me walk past.2

I came to box number 556, and noticed the house looked normal, and it was glowing even. I stepped forward, and the house suddenly flew back much farther and I was suddenly shrouded in darkness. 7 wraiths stepped forward from the shadows and encircled me. The 7 deaths had returned.3

All of them were making very deep sounds which sounded similiar to laughter.4

The one I had seen with the single blue eye stepped forward and removed his hood.5

He grabbed me by the face and pressed my face into his. The piercing light from his single eye suddenly forced a flashback into me. I was laying on a deathbed in the hospital, and my family was circled around my bed, mourning. I was dead..but I had already died. Then the death gently pushed me back from him and then, with his left skeletal hand still on my shoulder, he spoke this barely understandable phrase:6

"We collect thou from neitherwood. Convert...or feed thou to the Venghast we shall."7

"Convert..to one of you? I don't think so! What's 'Venghast'?"8

"Venghast be the consumer of realms. Escapeth hell it hath. It be after thee. Neither-nor be the matter here, child. Convert!"9

"I won't. I don't want to become some...creature like you!"10

"Verily, thou hast great courage to deny us this pact..however..Venghast be ravenous for thou, we must.."11

Before it could finish, Nate dropped in, growled, and the deaths scattered like ants, and disappeared into the dark.12

The house that was there before got closer quickly and the dark was no longer present.13

The wall demon was right beside us now...no time left..it was now or never.14

Nate looked onward toward the glowing house and simply told me to "go."15

I opened the door and was knocked backward by the memories flooding my mind. I remembered how I had died.16

I was driving to pick up a friend from the airport, and it was coming the storm of the century. The roads were very slick, and the winds were especially strong. I hit a sharp turn and veered into the side of a guardrail and went tumbling over it, and then over a cliff into the water. The airbag had popped out while I was underwater, and I couldn't get freed in time. 17

I remember being dragged out of my car underwater by someone..but I didn't know them. They were in a cloak type of thing.18

I was taken to the nearest hospital where I had fallen into a coma..and I was deemed dead. My family was keeping me on life support though, so they hadn't let go of hope yet, thank God.19

After this, a bright light flooded the house I was in, I was lifted up off the ground by some unknown source, and I also noticed the light was coming from all the openings on my face. 20

The wall demon got slammed backward by something, and it went as far as where I had first encountered it, and it was quickly pushed under the ground, and quite a few scorch marks were left. The 7 deaths were instantly burnt up into oblivion, and sent back to hell, I presume.21

Nate simply stood there, smiling. He waved goodbye. He then sprouted wings and turned into a few sparks and the sparks went upward. I heard his voice before this though.22

"Job well done."23

Light flooded this whole place, and things were converting back to normal. Trees that were bent over started going upright and grew leaves, the pavement was filling up by itself, the grass was growing back, and the people in apathy lane started fading away. I was coming back to the real world.24

Light then flooded and blinded my vision. I blacked out.25

I awoke in a hospital, with all of my family's faces staring at me, some relieved, others overjoyed. Some of them were even crying..was what I just experienced even real?26

I sat up in bed, relieved that I was back.27

I looked across the room through the doorway into the next room over. A doctor was in there, and he looked at me and winked, then walked down the hallway.28

For a minute, he looked just like Nate..29
