Fireflies

Fireflies1

I believe that fireflies are more than bugs. I believe that they symbolize many things such as, happiness, dream, childhood memories, comfort, promises and laughter. 2

Every child has a jar, in which they hold fireflies. Their own small comfort, in a world of dismay. They can be caught, almost a reminder that any dream, and idea or hope is just within reach, it can be caught in your own firefly jar. As a child, my friends and I made a pact, that each firefly we caught was a promise to make a wish, and make that wish come true. I have my own little jar of dreams, and yes it is an actual jar. In it, I caught countless fireflies. Also they can provide you with comfort. They are that preverbal light on that road that we call life. They offer that never failing flash of light, which is such a comfort to some. They are a comfort to me because; they remind me of my friends. That they are there giving me their light, to guide me. As stated above they are many things. Like promises that are to be kept. At camp my friends and I, made a promise to each other to come back and catch fireflies. On the last night of camp set them free and whisper a hope to each one. It’s a way that we realize that it’s possible to do anything. It also is just plain fun. Fireflies can create laughter, every time I try to catch one it makes me laugh. It brings me back to being a little child and tumbling around trying to catch them. Even now it still makes me laugh. It’s fun to try to chase them around and get them into your jar, and put the lid on quickly. Happiness is also brought by fireflies. When you finally catch that little hope and bug, you are filled with happiness. Like a balloon, filling up your body with joy and happiness. This is multiplied by tenfold, when you catch many more. Again they represent hopes, and dreams that you most likely do have. Fireflies represent dreams, and wants that can be caught. Like and adult wants a good job, a good pay and a good life. So with fireflies, it’s exactly like that. Everything you want is like that bug, it can be caught in your jar. 3

Fireflies stand for many things; they are more than just bugs. They are hope dreams, happiness, childhood memories, laughter, comfort, and promises. 4

Oooo, I love fireflies. Where I live now, there are not a lot of them, but sometimes I get to see them when I am out of the city. I love your comparison between fireflies and other hopeful things. I think they really do make a great metaphore.

I definately enjoyed the read and the thought of fireflies
