“The free expression of the hopes and aspirations of a people is the greatest and only safety in a sane society.”1
Emma Goldman2
Darkness knelt on the floor, by Adam’s bed; Her wings were open, She was on Her guard, ready to take flight and save the young lovers from Light’s harm. Like a deity becoming immortal, She remained in beauty, the effervescent glow lighting up the darkened room.3
“Piss off, I’m trying to sleep!” Adam groaned, half still sleeping, exhausted from the night time date. He sat up dramatically, making both Darkness and Evelin back off from him slightly. “What?!” He looked at Evelin. “Sorry, babe, I was sleeping. What are you doing here?”4
Evelin motioned to Darkness, who spoke with a melodic voice. “Adam, I need you to take heed of what I am saying. Evelin is my messenger, likewise Light is yours. Do not fear, I shan’t harm either of you. I cannot; I love Evelin too much. I am the creator of Muses. Adam, Light is on His way, and you must leave here. I can take you somewhere you can both live in safety. Adam, you must come with us!” Darkness held a pleading in Her voice, never heard before.5
Adam turned to the anxious Evelin. “Do you trust her?” He asked, to which Evelin nodded as a reply. “When will we go?”6
“Most likely, now, before Light can find us.” Darkness spoke, wings fluttering slightly, like an uneasy bird in the presence of an inquisitive kitten.7
After taking one look at Evelin, Adam nodded. Darkness smiled, and held out both her hands. They each took a hand; Adam gently held Her right hand, Evelin grasped Her left hand for dear life, then they tightly gripped onto each other’s free hand, all three making a circle.8
With a fluidity the young lovers had never experienced before, Darkness had taken Herself and the lovers to safety, in the form of a cave. It was bright, unusually so; Darkness knew this was the only way to keep Light away, since He became present by removing dark areas. Since the cave was abnormally bright, Light would not be able to be present there. The lovers were safe, for now.
