Leanna sighed, her breath turning into vapour in front of her mouth from the chilly midnight air. The streetlights down and up the street gave the town a constant sunset ambience in the night, it was distressing. She needed to get out of town unnoticed, and there was light everywhere. He heart thudded in excitement, thudded in fear, she felt like a nervous wreck. The result of her nerve made her palms sweaty and her movements stiff, or maybe her stiff movements were because of the chilly night air.1
Leanna walked forward down the pathway to the sidewalk in the yard, down to a plain white mountain bike with reflective and shiney letters spelling out "Lightning" on the bar that connected her seat and the handle bars. Placing her left hand on the handle bars and gripping ever so slightly, and her right hand onto the seat and lifting it gently and placing it near her hip. She had some difficulty putting her leg over the bike, having to tilt the bike at an angle in order to get on. She wasn't terribly tall, in fact she was quite short and small. Her small build and heighth of just a little over five feet gave her a much younger look than she already was, making her look just younger in his mid teens rather than the more mature look most people had in their late teens. She had naturally pale skin, with deep brown eyes and long straight brown hair. 2
At least she looked older now, she had on an army green jacket on and a red plaid scarf around her neck, black gloves with dark coloured cargoes and blue, white high tops, and a black backpack. She placed her right foot on the pedal, the bike still at an angle and her left foot on the ground to stay in one place. 3
She looked at her home, well. What used to be home anyway. The house was white and fairly large. She turned her eyes away from it and looked onward down the street. 4
No, no, no, no! No, Leanne! That doesn't matter anymore... She put the but of her palms against her eyes as if to push back the tears. Her emotions torn and mixed with hate and love. Memories good and bad were there, more so of the latter. After just a little bit more moping. 5
No one was ever there for me anyway.. It's not home. And it never will be.. 6
And pushing with her left leg the wheels of the bike moved forward, and she leaned more to her right and placed her left foot on the pedal, and pushed forward on it. The wheels moved forward again, she began balancing her weight between both sides and pushed on her right foot, the bike pedalling forward once more. And the bike moved forward down the street, and then she turned to right left. Riding more on the street now.7
She was taking a route she had planned for weeks on taking, all she wanted to do was get out of town so she gathered together all the money she could and packed what she could take and what had meaning to her. And now as far as she knew there was no going back. Her eyes darted at the shadows in the night, she could see alot in the night from the streetlights but that didn't mean danger still wasn't around. If she was assaulted and reported questions would be raised on why she was riding on her bike with a bag full of clothes and over eight hundred dollars in her wallet. She only had one chance to get out of town, it was her only hope. 8
The thought of being caught trying to leave made her heart pound against her chest quicken, that couldn't happen. It wouldn't. She wouldn't allow it to happen. She simply closed her eyes for a moment, and took in a short but rather deep breath of air and exhaled heavily, opening her eyes as she did so and pedalled faster.9
It was only until so long that she managed to pass the last few blocks of town before you got onto the main highway, it was almost an hour now since she left. The town was fairly small, she was glad to get out.. So glad. She pedalled faster foolishly, and knowing full well she'd need her energy to get to the next town. It was all that she just wanted to get as far away as possible, as quickly as possible.10
She slowed down as she got further away, but now she saw a light, white mixed with red and blue..11
No.. It now made sense why the town was so calm, anybody coming in was going through a police check. She had to pass on the road, and she couldn't wait until they left. She began to slow down even more, a car was going to pass by and see her sooner or later. And in panic she pressed the brakes, her heart pounding faster than ever. She looked left and right in the darkness, but it was no use. It was too dark. She quickly got off the bike, and brought it into the ditch at the side of the road and laid back and hid beside it. 12
She waited and waited, then the light passed by and she lifted her head up slowly. And saw that the next car was still being searched, she got up, but crouched with the bike and moved forward, her hands on the bike at her side. Everytime a car came close she laid back down and hid until it passed, repeating the process several times. And just as she was about to give up there was a dirt road nearby. It was the only way she'd get to the next town in time, and she was getting tired. Her calves ached from crouching, she felt out of shape. So it was the only option. 13
She poked her head out once more, the next car was too close. So she slowly laid back again, and waited. This time a few cars came by, the police search was beginning to get lazy, and she was lucky that she saw the dirt road nearby or she'd be doing this all night.14
And poking her head out once more, and with just enough time she darted for the road as fast as she could with the bike. And like a fox she couldn't be sitting on the bike and pedalling like mad on the gravel as soon as she hit it. She smiled victoriously, and breathing heavy from the run. She really did feel out of shape now, well. She didn't have to worry about that, it was likely she'd be on the road for the next month or so. And if it was like this it'd definately leave her sore in the morning.15
It wasn't until she felt safe that she could pedal slowly again that she realized just how dark and desolate the dirt road was, and it seemed too convenient.. It sent shivers up her spine. She felt uneasy and waiting for her eyes to adjust before she pedalled faster in fear once more. Her breathing was heavy, but at least she could see in the moonlight, sometimes the tree's would hide the moonlight and leave only bits and peices of the road visible, but it was enough.16
But now something she expected would come, but not this early. She felt tired, her eyelids feeling heavy.. Maybe she'd just close her eyes a little.. Just a little...17
Then she lost control, the front wheel had it a large rock that had flipped her onto her back and she slid a little forward. She was lucky she was wearing thick clothing or she'd have scraped herself against the gravel. She groaned in pain and laid there, still feeling tired.18
No.. I can't sleep here.. She thought, lost in her exhaustion. She rolled over onto her stomach with her eyes still closed. She had no idea how comfortable the ground could be when you were tired. And she raised her head forward and opened her eyes, but her hair had been drapped over her eyes. Then she started to feel a throbbing pain on her head. She groaned in pain, clenching her eyes shut. She must have landed head first or something. 19
Then she moved the hair from her face and opened her eyes once more, and she couldn't see anything. But fear shot into the deepest pits of her heart, stiffening every bone in her body. It started as a low growl, slowly raising in volume. Then rapidly raising in volume, and she heard more growling all over. Her eyes adjusted, and despair pierced into her like never before. Her fears had been realized, she saw impossibly large wolves in front of her. 20
