Death is swift and dawn comes early

The sky was a Television colour, Tuned to a dead channel, lightened by the angelic halo of a fiery streak that scurried across the sky as if chase of the dawn. It majestically flowed though the clouds, which were gathering ready for the onslaught of light dawn would bring, the streak's promptness increased as the planet lured it closer. Bright blue and green tongues licked out from the streak at spontaneous moments contrasting the fiery red of the streaks centre. As it neared the arch of the horizon, the streak hit the ground with such force and intensity to block out the suns. When the ground stopped shaking and erupting, a teal blue mushroom bulged from the horizon bringing dawn early to this dead planet, for is this not the age of technological wonders? Where nature responds to mankind's every whim?1

Bang! The ship screamed and shuddered in silence as a wave of energy blazed into the ships port upper aft engine tearing it away as the hull around the impact site imploded erupting a fountain of blue plasma before sucking it back in. Captain McCourtney stood on the bridge watching the engine shoot away from the ship and into the endless black night of space, with a withering tail of blue and red fingers trying to grab the ship.3

"Prepare to do a warp jump," McCourtney shouted across the mayhem filled room. "Sir?" 4

"You heard me ensign." He stated firmly.5

"Sir yes sir" 6

A klaxon sounded across the ship, echoing in empty mess halls and dead corridors. "Two minuets to warp jump" Fathers voice resounded throughout the ship. The klaxons grew louder and the lights dimmed as blue neon's lit up the floor, a warning, 7

which was deeply embedded into the crews mind before they even saw this ship. 8

As more Kateshi destroyers started warping in, the ship's fifth and most powerful engine activated tearing a hole in the fabric of space-time, puncturing a hole big enough so that the ship threw itself into the nightmarish realm of the warp, were both the general and special theories of relativity are thrown out into the cold vacuum of space and in which the Quantum theories ruled alongside the universe's most perverse and sadistic beings, haunting those which dare to use the warp realm without sufficient protection in the form of a psyche-priest or the mysterious Kateshi creatures.9

Just less then an earth day passed before the ship finally emerged from the warp under the inextinguishable abilities of psyche-priest Molark the third. 10

"Systems critical, main power failure, searching for liable emergency landing planetary systems… planet found… co-ordinates locked… Sub-warp engines engaged" Father continued to mumble to itself, as the crew were just recovering from the warp jump. McCourtney dived for the comm. System and started yelling into it, "Damage report, and all stations report in now!" As the damage reports came in and people slowly reporting in. there was an eerily silence from the aft sections and the engine rooms. The tension grew higher as the bridge crew awaited contact from the engine rooms and aft workstations.11

"I want a security team down there now and send a section of the army boys with them." The captain spoke into the comm. system with a worried and tense voice. "Molark did one of those things come out with us?" Molark stood still and silent. "Molark?" Molark's head bowed down. 12

"Yes sir one did come out with us,"13

"How di..." 14

"It came through the tear in the hull were one of the engines used to be, it's a big one, maybe meta-class.”15

The captain swore silently under his breath 16

"Evacuate the ship now, and get back the army boys and my security team now." Most of the crew ran to the life pods, as they did they could hear abominable screams and grim beastly gruesome grunts from the men and the creature, which followed them from the warp. The army boys were last onto the life pods, which were pretty empty as the creature had halved their number. 17

"Father?" asked the captain, 18

"Yes captain?" 19

"Were the creature now?"20

"Second Deck forward section."21

"Father, that planet to which were heading?"22

"Yes captain?"23

"Will it be able to support the creature?" 24

"Insufficient information" 25

"Father I want you to destabilise our orbit and crash the ship into the planets atmosphere, over run safety procedures authorization pie alpha three echo." 26

"Safety procedure over run, Orbit destabilization is commencing." 27

As the captain boarded and launched the last life pod, the front end of the ship lit up a bright colourful orange as it hit the atmosphere, and then started turning, the ships starboard flank started to ignite in the same wondrous orange as the front before it started to burn away from the intense and prolonged heat. When the life pod slapped into the ground and came to an all mighty and silent stop the captain got out of the pod and stared at the sky, which was a Television colour, Tuned to a dead channel, lightened by the angelic halo of a fiery streak that scurried across the sky as if chase of the dawn. "Captain come in, Come in captain" 29

"This is McCourtney" 30

"Sir it seems the Kateshi managed to follow us" 31

"What?"32

"The Kateshi followed the ship and our pods and have just landed in the nearby canyon." 33

"And?" 34

"We've been listening to their comm. network and it seems they've come under attack from some strange alien animal which is decimating their forces"35

"So why should we care?" 36

"It's the warp beast sir, it's still alive" 37

"Where are you?"38

"About one hundred meters atop the hill in front of you" As the captain arrived at the top of the hill he found no one alive, just bloody bodies scattered randomly around. When he finally gathered the courage to look over the edge, about two hundred metres down he could see masses of Kateshi bodies littering the canyon floor to their half sunken ship with a great beast perched on top of it, with great semi transparent wings folding out from beneath it and bulky tentacles sweeping the canyon in search of anyone alive. Its desires for original beauty completely corrupted by the madness of the warp. The captain just stood there unable to fathom the creation of such a creature and its madness nor the inescapable feeling that within that beast lay nirvana.39
