The Story of Mia

Many of the people I’ve met in my life would say that I was a sweet, beautiful, talented young lady. I played sports, I went to school, and I had a close knit of loving friends. What they wouldn’t be able to tell you was that I was the one who unleashed a terribly powerful force upon those who were born in the blood of corruption and evil and annihilated them. My name has become law, my hand is my power, and my soul is feared by twisted devils. I am the new Goddess of the inevitable change and hopeful beginnings. However, I was not born as a Goddess or an Angel, but a simple mortal girl dreaming of art school. I had two wonderful parents, a dog named Selene, and I lived in a quiet town with pleasant people. It wasn’t until my eighteenth birthday that I would receive a give that would shatter my world forever. My name was once Mia Locke and this is my story.1

“Mia, hurry up! You’re going to be late to class again!” My mother, her name was Mary, poked her head inside my doorway and watched my head rise from the sea of blankets. “Come on Birthday Girl, Dad’s got breakfast waiting in the kitchen and he has a surprise for you.”  I groped for my glasses and kicked off the covers in mock anger. Mom laughed and headed back down the stairs, I could hear Dad, and his name was Henry, talking. I began stretching out my legs and arms, listening to the bones in my back crackle in relief and watching the trees outside grow bright with the rising sun. Quickly running a brush through my hair, I threw on my jeans, a black designer shirt, and my favorite black boots. I deemed myself presentable for the world with eyeliner and ran downstairs. When I opened the door to the kitchen I saw the table was covered in my favorite breakfast foods and a small pile of gifts. “Mom, Dad, is that chocolate chip pancakes?” when they nodded I clutched my chest in mock surprise, “but chocolate chips are forbidden in this household!!” Dad just laughed and told me to sit down. 2

After having my fill of pancakes, bacon, Selene’s doggy kisses, and presents, my dad pulled a small box out of his jacket. “Honey, this final present will mark the day you become a true lady, this was passed down in my family for 3 generations. My great-Grandmother, Maria, traveled to Milan, Italy to purchase some items, when an old voodoo woman beckoned her over. The old woman offered to tell Maria’s fortune and sell her something at a cheap price. Well, like all women- ,” Mom slapped Dad’s arm and he laughed and continued, “They can not resist a good bargain so Maria held out her palm for the old woman. After some time the old woman looked up at Maria and said that she would be bound to travel to the new world and there she and her family will grow and thrive. She also said that her heir will become the new change and hope for those suppressed by evil souls. Maria just nodded and withdrew her hand. The old woman put something in Maria’s hand and told her to make sure this stayed in her family until her great grand child was 18.” Dad paused for a moment, and I looked up at the clock, “Holy crap! I have to leave!!! School starts in 15 minutes!!!” I grabbed my keys, bag and Dad’s present and started for the door. Quickly I ran back to my parents and kissed them both, “thank you so much you guys, I love you both! See you tonight!” with that I sprinted out to my car and drove off to school.3

“Mia! Mia! Hey!” I turned my head towards the sound and saw my friend, Chloe running toward my locker, it was after math class and I was ready to head to Art. “Hey Chloe B, what’s up?” “Nothing much, that math test was a bitch, wasn’t it? Hey, what’d your parents give you for your big one eight” I ruffled through my bag while rattling off my list and said, “My dad gave me this box too, I haven’t opened it yet but apparently I’m supposed to inherit its good fortune.” Chloe ogled the box before yelling, “Well, open it you ninny! I bet it’s like keys to an old villa or something!” Wincing jokingly, I began to until the gold ribbon tied around the box. Thunder began to rumble in the distance, making Chloe and I look up in surprise. “Was it supposed to rain today?” Chloe said. “I highly doubt it; the weatherman said clear skies until Friday.” We both shrugged and walked towards the school’s parking lot. “Come on Mia! Don’t leave the world hanging; let’s see what this big heirloom is!” Chloe tugged at my arm and I pulled off the top of the box. 4

Lightning struck a tree three miles away but Chloe and I didn’t even scream or notice. Inside that little box laid the most amazing necklace that I had ever seen. The chain was glowing white silver with tiny black roses engraved in them; the pendant was the most fascinating. The stone within the metal prongs wasn’t anything I’ve ever seen before in my life. It looked like blue diamond but it reflected red and purple rays in the light and it was cut like flame, the way raging fires looked on TV. “Oh my God, Chloe, look at this! It’s so incredible.” I stared at the stone and felt a strong pull to put it on. Chloe looked at my face and smiled an eerie smile, “you lucky girl. Try it on and unleash the hope.” I looked at my friend in confusion and discovered my hands were moving over the clasp on their own. I swung the necklace over my hair and began to fasten it. The thunder boomed even louder as I fumbled with the links. Chloe started tapping her foot, oblivious to the storm “Mia, stop acting like a klutz! I want to see how it looks on you. Plus, it’ll make all the girls envious, and maybe hot boys like Jake and his friend Elwood will take notice” With a groan of annoyance and humor I snap the clasp closed over the chain and let the necklace fall to me chest. 5

The last thing I saw was the stone glowing like fire and white lightning dissolving the world “CHLOE!!!!” I screamed! “Chloe, where are you? Mom? Dad? WHERE THE HELL IS EVERYONE!?” I opened my hands and great waves of energy erupted out of them. I saw everyone dying, black shadows being ripped from them and dissolving into oblivion. I started screaming when a thought came to me Somehow, I understood that those black shadows were the black part of mortal souls and my stone was cleansing the bodies. I understood why my great grandmother was chosen to receive this necklace. I was supposed to rebuild the world, to purge the blood and evil from mortals and to save hope from disappearing. I knew I wouldn’t see Chloe or my family again for a long time because I had a world to save. Grasping the necklace with one hand and raising the other to the sky, I rose into the thunderclouds and unleashed the power across the sky. 6

Everyone in the world was born pure of soul but as time flows on and the mortal grows older, the souls become caked in black and they lose themselves. I was given the necklace so I could start life over again and keep the souls clean. My human body faded away and my Goddess form was born from the clouds and the stone. I am Mia Locke at heart and I am the Goddess in power. I would always be there, and never forget my life.7

Well great jod on this remarkble piece of writing I thought it was wonderiful I enjoyed it so much, the only thing annoyed me was that the girl never got to see her mother or father again, did they die. O well it was still brillant.
