Just the Beginings of a Story

My thighs were burning, but I ignored how they were pleading for me to stop. I looked up, and the sky turned a dark black. I have never seen it that black. A rush of air pushed me back, and I tightened the grip of my hoodie pockets. As if on cue, a sheet of rain came down, followed by a shocking crack of thunder. Normally, I would have been in my mansion with my parents, watching Dodge ball or another classically funny movie with my friends. Times have changed now. I shook the thought out of my head and sprinted forward. 1

It’s SO cold out tonight.’ I thought. Just then, a light, exasperating beam shot out from the sky and knocked me on my back. ‘What was that?’ I asked myself. Both of us didn’t seem to know. I painfully opened my eyes and saw that only 12 feet away, lightning had struck the barbed wire fence that I was running by. I had heard that the fence had been up for a long time, and it led to the river. I ran even faster, and a stick punctured a hole about the size of my finger through my green converse. That was followed by a rush of cold, wet water bringing my toes company.2

Then I saw it. It was the perfect crevice for hiding in. It was a narrow gorge in a large mass of rocks. I stumbled toward it, collapsing a couple of times. When I was within a foot of the shelter, I lost my footing and a sharp pointed rock pierced my skin, followed by a rush of blood coming from my hand. I ignored it and scrambled up the rest of the rocks. 3

Finally, I gasped. I took my backpack which I had packed a couple of years earlier off my back and laid it on my knees. I could definitely think here. 4
