Chapter 41

“Can you believe school starts tomorrow?” I asked to Spike lying on my bed a couple days later. 2

“No. It feels like this summer has gone by so fast!” she replied sadly. “But at least we are supposed to be in some of the same classes eh?”3

“Yeah, good thing,” I said. “Hey speaking of being together are you and Danny in any of the same classes?”4

“Well sort of,” she replied. “We are in two of the same first semester and one second semester.” 5

“Oh that kind of sucks doesn’t it?”6

“Well sort of.” She said uneasily.7

“Why do you say that?” I asked curiously.8

“Well since I moved back, Danny and I have been fighting a little bit. It’s just I think he’s not telling me something. I don’t know what it is. But he’s definitely holding something back. And it’s killing me not knowing.” She answered, “I just wish he would tell me.”9

“I wonder what it could be.” I said. 10

Danny and Spike are like the cutest couple. They have been going out since Grade eight. And we’re going into grade ten. I wouldn’t think anything could separate them. But then again, I haven’t talked to Spike in a long time. I might have missed a few details. Let’s hope not. Spike seems so happy and I would hate for anything to affect that. 11

“I doubt it’s anything huge. Don’t worry okay?” I said. 12

“Let’s hope not.” She said, “I hate being in the dark.”13

“I don’t think he would do anything to hurt you though.” 14

“I don’t either.” 15

“I’ll pray for you. Okay?” I replied.16

“That sounds nice. I would like that. But I got to go. I have to finish getting ready for school tomorrow.” She said.17

“Okay Toodles.”18

“Bye.” She said and hung up.19

Man this summer went too fast!20

Well here we all are on the first day of the new school year. I never remembered there being this many people in our school. That’s so weird.22

“Kameel” Said Spike running up behind her and hugging her almost knocking her down, “Oops sorry.” 23

I laughed. “It’s all good.” 24

“Excited?” she asked.25

“Hardly!” I replied.26

“Well we’re here so we might want to try and enjoy it eh?” She said laughing at herself. “Did I just say that?” 27

“Yes.” I just laughed. 28

“Hey DORKS!” yelled Teena running up and throwing her arms around them both. “Ready for school?”29

“Take a lucky guess.” I said. 30

“Well I am! I am really glad we are back!” 31

Spike and I both just stared at her.32

“I mean it. And don’t look at me like that please!” She said, “You look like drooling zombies.”33

“Gosh sorry, but did we just hear you correct?” Spike asked.34

“Yes you did. I am really excited to be back in school. Mostly because we are in high school.”35

“Why is that so cool?” I asked.36

“Because we’re free and…” She whispered, “Aaron Patterson can date.”37

“OH BROTHER!” Spike and I both said in unison. 38

We have all known that Teena has been obsessed with Aaron-Class Clown Patterson. And now he can finally he can. His parents have been really strict until now. This should be very interesting.39

“Hey the bell’s about to ring, I’ll see you guys later okay?” Teena said running down the hallway in the opposite direction.40

“See you later.” We both yelled.41

“We’d better get to homeroom before someone takes all the good seats.” Said Spike. 42

I followed and we walked to the classroom. 43

“Hey good, no one took my favorite seat!” I yelled running over and putting my books on one of the desks in the back of the room. “I love this desk.”44

I mused. 45

There are a lot of memories with this desk. I was sitting in this desk when I met Teena seven years ago. She was the new girl and me and Spike were the first ones to say hi. And it was the desk that I was sitting in when I got asked out by Chris. Yeah, so many memories. “Man, am I a loser or what?” 46

Spike laughed.47

“Oh gee thanks!” I laughed too. 48

“Hey guess who?” said Chris putting his hands over my eyes.49

“CHRIS!” I said. 50

“Hey beautiful!” he said smiling and kissing her. “I missed you.”51

“Awe I missed you too.” I said smiling.52

“Hey look who it is?” Said Spike poking me. 53

“Oh great, Devis! I said with spite in my voice.54

There are really some people you can never get along with you know? And Devis is one of them!55

“Hey Chris…I got us a pair of tickets to…Chris?” I said turning around wondering where he went.56

Then spike poked me and pointed to where Chris was standing talking to Devis and her girls, Candace and Shirley.57

“What is he doing?” asked Spike.58

“What is she doing?” I said, “That’s more like it.” 59

Nothing makes me madder than seeing someone flirting with my boyfriend, even if he isn’t the best guy on the planet he’s still my boyfriend. And when it’s Devis who is doing the flirting it makes me ten times as mad! 60

“I’m going to give her a piece of my mind!” I said stomping angrily over to them.61

“Hey Kameel,” said Devis turning to Kameel with a smile on her face. “Did you want something?”62

“Yeah I want you to step off my boyfriend!” I answered.63

“Oh so now you are his girlfriend again?” She asked.64

“What do you mean?” I asked stunned.65

“Oh Chris said you two were taking a break and were able to see other people, isn’t that right Chris?” She said looking at Chris and smiling slyly.66

“What are you talking about?” I asked, “Chris what is she talking about?”67

“Well you see…I mean…You know…I didn’t mean for anything to happen.” He stuttered. 68

“What do you mean anything to happen?” I asked madder than ever.69

“Oh nothing.” He said.70

“Well I wouldn’t call it just anything, now come on Chris.” Devis piped in. 71

“Will someone please tell me what is going on?” I yelled. 72

“Chris do you want to tell her or should I?” Devis asked turned to Chris.73

Chris just looking down at his feet and was about to speak when Devis spoke instead.74

“Well we’ll say Chris’s mouth does more than talk.” She laughed. “It kisses really well too!” 75

“You pig!” I yelled at Chris.76

He didn’t even look up at me. That hurt me even more.77

I can’t believe he would do this to me. How could he go and do something with Devis. I thought he loved me. He said it over and over again. I mean, we’ve been going out for a year and a half. And we’ve been closer than anyone ever can hope to be. How could be do this to me? To us?78

“Kameel I…” He began.79

But I cut him off. “No don’t try to tell me something else stupid! I think you’ve done enough.”80

“You don’t understand…” he said.81

“Oh I think I do!” I yelled, “You’re just a lousy jerk!” 82

“I didn’t mean for it to happen like this…” he replied.83

“Well then you should never have let it become something!” I said tears welling up in my eyes. “You know what Devis? You can have him!” 84

“Have fun…” I said slapping him across the face and walking away.85

I sunk into my desk and put my head in my hands. 86

“Why me?” I said quietly. 87

“It’s okay Kameel.” Spike said pulling her desk over to mine, “He’s not worth your tears.”88

“But why, why didn’t I see it coming?”89

“I don’t know…” She said.90

“Anyone want these who tickets to the opening of Romantic Nights on Friday?” I said holding up to front row tickets. “I won’t be using them!” 91
